Re: What are you reading tonight?
Today I finished Michael Frayn’s novel Headlong . This is a novel about an aspiring Art historian who thinks he has discovered a missing masterpiece from Pieter Bruegel’s series The Seasons that has been looted by a British officer after the second world war and whose family has possession of it, a...

^ Not read the book, but have you seen Helen Mirren's Woman in Gold Will? Based on a true story of Gustav Klimt's iconic painting of her ( character's) aunt, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, which was stolen from her relatives by the Nazis in Vienna just prior to World War II. It's an interesting t...

No Sir. If we're trusting to science, we can get rid of all that art n lit shite. It adds bugger all to our scientific understanding of anything. Let's take art as an example - You look at a picture - some folks see different things in it. It's a little bit like trying to find god. Shouldn't be spo...

Re: Today I'm happy about......
The judgement only considers schools with a non-religious character..seems like they missed this rather important bit out. As a parent, I have no qualms about some syllabus time being devoted to humanism , to help my children understand differing views. They'll ultimately make their own minds up. m...

Re: Today I'm happy about......
To be replaced by secular schools in which religion is taught as an important subject - because of its important place in human society. Faith is different - this should be no business of the state and the state should not contribute to its teaching. The state should certainly uphold religious free...

This About. Fecking. Time. Good news but a minor first step. The end of state funded faith schools has to be the aim. Okay, I'll bite at an obvious hook. Replaced by what? The said state funded faith schools don't teach anything else except religion, do they? If I remember ( as a Catholic) we had a...

So nowt like our good goal against Everton in 1997/8 which should have sent them down and kept us up then? The events at Chelsea - Per's miss!!! Had something to do with it. And - despite the fact i detest Everton, i do have two v gd mates who support them. I have to say they have no memory of the ...

Re: Per Frandsen - your memories
Agree with all the above. I'd like to identify his performance in the opening match of the 2001-02 season, away at Leicester as his finest 90 minutes. Per absolutely bossed that game. He scored 2 and made 2 in a Whites 5-0 victory. I was writing the match report for the sadly missed fanzine Tripe n ...
