Re: 2024, hoodwink and bamboozle the public

I totally agree with that Boris. And what a fantastic show on the election trail we have had so far: Votes for 16yo, you can/cannot stand for election. All kids to sign up for the army, well all mostly males, look at me falling off a paddle board, sliding down a water slide and now the promise of f...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

When you are embarrassed about your signing-on fee. It's already started to go wrong. The things that came later have amplified it, but it's already in train, right there.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Fairly sure they still had a "number" in the mid-noughties accounts. I know why it was there - laymans - to say to all, this crock of shit business model has assets, it's not that bad. Honest. But given that amount would likely be raised in a fire sale, I always thought it questionable at best. Our ...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Player investment isn't just about resale, though - it's also about having assets on the books that raise the overall value of the business. Squads are a major part of how much a football club is worth. That impacts terms of financial instruments, risk assessments and all that banking jazz. If inve...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

I think we should stop worrying about resale value and worry about realising the 8-10M value that promotion guarantees. I think a lot of our recruitment based on being able to sell people on is why we haven’t gone up because it’s forced us into a certain type. I can’t see Goldson being true because...

Re: 2024, hoodwink and bamboozle the public

Agree AT. It needs "something" :-) As Thatcher might have said to the unions, the landbanks/developers need more stick and less fcuking carrot. Ban the feckers from donating to political parties might be a first step Agree - But maybe ban all lobby orgs etc. along with it. Clamp down on any "jollie...

Re: 2024, hoodwink and bamboozle the public

Is there a " We don't have a clue how to fix it, but we'll have a go" party? Let's start with compound interest limits on loans; that should defer a few of the "get money for nothing" fusileers. Then we could make wealth tax so high that the investors will be breaking their necks to part with money...

Re: 2024, hoodwink and bamboozle the public

First thing is to properly define affordable. It seems to be based on an arbitrary percentage below market rate. Given market rate is the problem you'd have to constantly shift the percentage blow up, and in a couple of decades at current rate probably 90% below! You can argue specifics, but surely...

Re: 2024, hoodwink and bamboozle the public

Agree with needing some sort of legislation. The answer ain't lobbing bricks everywhere, they're just more fodder for investment purchases, given no fcuker can build a house for less than about £300k. TBF, I bought my gaff on the basis I'd inherited a bit - that was 24 years back, so it's not an en...

Re: Tonight's Football

I have it a bit like FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley. If they want Greece to compete, level the playing field...Albanian Wage Cap should do it.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Yeah that’s confirmed. Didn’t set the world alight here - will be remembered for trying to cheat that ball in on the line! Worrying thing is that means the pool were shopping in is worse given he’s gone to a championship team. Says Plymouth signed defender Ogbeta? Did anyone have him down as a defe...

Bucks Palace sold to developers ? Get a big chunk of social housing on there - Vote winner, mate. I think actually building more prisons and borstal would win even more votes. A referendum on capital punishment would win even more, there is little excuse for innocents being hung now with all the DN...

Re: Tonight's Football

Olympiakos won the UEFA conference league, in Athens. Going to be some ouzo hangovers today. First Greek (club) team to win a European final. (I suppose the only thing sweeter for them would have been doing it at Panathanaikos' ground rather than AEK). Aahh, thanks. Next question...what is the conf...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Perusing this week's issue of The New European last night as part of the sporadic but ongoing attempts to fill my head with Not Wanderers, I read Simon Barnes' Champions League final preview and one paragraph, about #narrative, made me think of this forum. This is how the fabulous fabled fable-tell...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

We voted Tim Ream POTY, one year (I use "we" with plenty of leeway for those who didn't get it either). 'Nuff said.

The more I've looked back at some of our conceded goals, the less convinced I am by "stop them on the flanks." There are way too many right down the middle of the gun-barrel for me.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

As delighted as when they scored three at our gaff? Interesting example, given the topic. Very rarely seen a team miss a player as much as we missed Santos in that one. Overall I'd say I'm precisely as delighted as you get to be by finishing 34 points above a team that's spending more money than yo...
