Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

The problem is not that our press is more ineffective than Oxfords' - as Ghost says over the season, it's not - our Opta PPDA still has us as top, Oxford 4th bottom. But that's where the lies, damned lies and statistics come into play. In a one-off game, or even across the play-off, they might have...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

On another topic du jour - I would not be confident of top two if our RWB options are Cogz, Matheson, Jones. If we go back four, maybe (although we’d need a tall LB as none of those are grrrrrreat in the air). Iredale Yep, decent for that, but then that’s four “defenders” rather than three. Say we ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Nobody associated with the football club is happy right now. I wouldn’t expect them to be. That’s not in doubt and I suspect the board are saying we simply have to go up. Financially last season promotion really was imperative and in not doing it next season becomes massively pressurised from the o...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Why is our press much more ineffective than oxfords It's not. At the start of the season we were far and away the best pressing outfit. Where that fell down was when we lost Dion and Vic. None of the replacements could do the work. Without one key pressing player it worked, without both it didn't. ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Looking across at ours and WW's polls. I think the tally whilst strongly against, as you'd expect maybe, after Saturday has absolutely narrowed but is still roughly 50/50. 115 for go and 114 stay, across the two. The arguments for and against are pretty similar, probably as you'd expect, but I just ...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Who is saleable then? Can we cash in on Santos, Sheehan, Thomason, or Charles to plug the gaps we need in mentality? I’m with Insane at the moment, if that’s the squad for next season it’s not getting top 6, never mind top 2. Too many opposition managers have worked out how to play against us. I su...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

There is no good reason to play 3 at the back, bottom line is we can recruit into a 4131 far more easily it suits more of our players and even if you say the main ones it doesn’t suit are Charles and Santos…both of those might not be here…… If Evatt is manager he's shown before he actually prefers ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I think you're saying, probably doesn't get in the way of us, but might hinder his personal development in future. If that's correct, then I genuinely don't care. I was starting to get images of him sitting 13 round a table for the pre-match and making them say Grace... I don't think it hinders us ...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

One of me mates' sons landed his 1st pro, so he's pretty happy with it. Alongside what you say Ghost, wonder if Jerome's non-contract for "upstairs gig" is tied to us not making it up a rung? Not surprised other than that. Congrats to the kid. Huge moment for any young man. It may well be a case of...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

But I think over time I’ve realised that Evatt’s particular ego is a front to cover up his own self doubt. Did the self-help books and "Jesus needs me to be in the Premier League" not give it away to you on day one? Doubt is healthy. Avoiding it is the weakness. If Evatt can stop avoiding it it'll ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

^^ Gotta be honest, although I want him gone, this non-story doesn't tilt the needle for me and whilst I could try and build a "here's what I reckon," I don't actually know first hand what goes on, but for me the reason he has to go, remains as "fecked it up royally and spinelessly." One thing he di...

Can we get Danny Batth to fcuk up my auto-correct? :-)

We'd probably like to ask him to refrain from diving headers in his own penalty box if we do.
 indeed.

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

Yeah, I wasn't arguing the point. Merely sort of agreeing with you, with a bit of an extra worry. Evatt might be on a promotion season and people could still turn on a sixpence at the first sight of a hiccup. "Here we go again" is bound to be a concern, even when we're going well. Think we're sayin...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

TBF, I think Ainsworth has fewer votes in favour than keeping Evatt - he's got one with maybe a second pick after Duff from Dibs...Move on. The "get ridders" sometimes don't help themselves much... :-) They don't, but equally your point about "dead man walking" isn't miles off. Like I say, every pr...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I doubt anyone is using one result to define Evatt's career JSF....if they were, then I doubt the vote would be in it's current state, because if all you knew was that one game, he's probably never managing again...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

If Evatt goes, it needs to be someone else who can get the most out of a team designed to play out from the back, to dominate the ball. Oxford did that too. Ruben Rodrigues isn't getting in a Paul Warne team. I'm happy with play out from the back, as long as it has some purpose and direction. If it...
