Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

No - think clearly. Go 4 at back. Cogley has offered nothing. Hook him. Jones to right back. Evatt has no tactical brain. He’s been completely done here by a better manager. Oxford set up perfectly. Want it. They haven’t had to be good. They knew if they stop the midfield we will beat ourselves. Th...

Inexcusable on every level. Clear out in the summer and start again. A disgrace.

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

I’m nervous but determined to go and enjoy the day. I really hope everyone else on here who is going enjoys it as do those who aren’t. I’m not ashamed to admit the last few months have been personally very tough for family reasons I won’t go into and it’s taken a big toll on me personally. Whatever ...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

It’s scary how similar Evatt’s and Neal’s records are. Almost a mirror image. Let’s hope the mirror is shattered this weekend. I hear DSB’s optimism. I’m not optimistic by nature but it’s mainly because whenever I have been optimistic about Bolton Wanderers I end up disappointed. It’s an unavoidable...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

I suspect round here wouldn't be a great place, were we to lose out to an Evans/Clarke-Harris led Rotherham, next year... If we go up it'll be interesting to see how people react to us losing a lot more games and whether there's the kind of patience there needs to be. If we stay down then...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

The 2 Parkinson seasons that ended with the pitch invasions had happy finale's but both were turgid, boring seasons with some absolutely shocking football and results into the mix. Remembered for their relative successes, not for their enjoyment. Most of that Championship season was spent watching ...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

Like most things, it's reasonable to say this is a good time, relative to Leagues 1 and 2. I think most folks are enjoying it. I don't think it's reasonable to expect everyone joins in singing Jesus wants me for a sunbeam. I doubt anything will beat the 1977/78 season for me. I was young, had never...

Fitted for suits. Like it's a jolly day out. This lack of focus is why we'll never get anywhere. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-berkshire-69010555 Oh hang on that's them. Can you pin a video to a wall? In 99 didn’t Watford go for a jolly day out and all get fitted suits too whilst we trea...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

Nothing has topped Port Vale away in 2017 or whatever it was. Nor the joyous pitch invasion the game after.

Ultimately you can have all the great aways you like but seasons need the success at the end of them to be one you will remember in years to come.

Re: Five Year EFL Deal: Death of the 3pm?

Not sure the timing of this is great - If she highly vocal of the Greed of the Premier League clubs and is calling them out, she's also calling out the EFL board who pander to the PL clubs and bend to their will every time. With a play off final around the corner, and with the powerful reach of the...

Re: Five Year EFL Deal: Death of the 3pm?

Put this here as it's about the wider football "settlement" but I see Shazza has had some pretty strong words for the parliament select committee dealing with the proposed new regulator, about the "greed" of the big clubs. I think she's right, though I found her extremely trying. She was asked conc...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

This season has been weird. Despite scoring 121 goals, I haven't actually found it that enjoyable! On the flip side, despite me moaning (more than most) than our profligate finishing and dubious defending, this is genuinely one of the nicest squads we've had. It'd be a shame to break it up and I th...

The ‘we always feck it up’ goes back way further than post Allardyce! I remember being told similar decades before that - the 80’s were not - time where you often found positive Bolton fans!

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

Even though I'm looking forward to the day, I'm not confident of a victory at all. I see it as a genuine 50/50 at this point and if I were a neutral I'd probably be having a bet on Oxford at the prices. The weather is also looking quite bad - thunder storms currently forecast for just before kick-o...

They might have larger numbers on the day, but they'll all be day trippers, asking folk to sit down and be quiet so they can watch the show. The quality of our support will be better, as long as we don't go behind! :-) Yeah exactly. Our support was as good as any supporters ever have been last week...

All the conversation does is highly how absolutely essential it is we do go up. But I suppose ‘twas ever thus.
