Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Player investment isn't just about resale, though - it's also about having assets on the books that raise the overall value of the business. Squads are a major part of how much a football club is worth. That impacts terms of financial instruments, risk assessments and all that banking jazz. If inve...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I think we should stop worrying about resale value and worry about realising the 8-10M value that promotion guarantees. I think a lot of our recruitment based on being able to sell people on is why we haven’t gone up because it’s forced us into a certain type. I can’t see Goldson being true because ...

Yeah he’s very good. I can’t see that. Would be a huge improvement over what we’ve got at the back. Massive.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 6:29 pmA few rumours of Rangers CB Connor Goldson joining us, if true I'm not sure how we afford his wages never mind any fee.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Shoretire leaving Utd on a free. Given his education and the bits he showed, we could do a lot worse than offering him a years contract, with B team and PJT matches to see how he progresses. That's assuming he's not fending off 2 and 3 year deals from L1 & L2 clubs. Giving it up if we sign him. Cou...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Yeah that’s confirmed. Didn’t set the world alight here - will be remembered for trying to cheat that ball in on the line! Worrying thing is that means the pool were shopping in is worse given he’s gone to a championship team. Says Plymouth signed defender Ogbeta? Did anyone have him down as a defe...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Yeah good luck to him. Seems a nice lad. But his performance in the final was beyond atrocious.
Questions will have to be asked if Plymouth get a tune out of him a level up and we couldn’t.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
Yeah a team that by its own admission hasn’t turned up for the big games on a consistent basis is doing that for a reason. The conditions and environment the manager has created are driving those performances and results. It’s not like Oxford was one thing out of the blue. We’ve spent two seasons ta...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
It was some night the wolves game. A horrible pitch. A very physical, strong and direct wolves side. It was a horrible horrible slog of a tie. First leg we were lucky to come away still in the tie but 2-1 down - we’d already done that against Swindon over two legs. But it was incredibly tight. Scram...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
Charlton won 11 games last season - the fewest of any team outside the bottom 3. If you can't say we're better placed than them at the minute then you can't make any qualitative statements of any kind about football. This is not a conversation that needs to be had. Oxford finished 19th the year bef...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
I have a problems with the modern football use of ‘models’. Oh our model is much better. It might be but is losing £5.6M on the second highest turnover in the league sustainable? Only whilst people put money in. And we all know whatever anyone says that’s a finite resource. So our ‘model’ is pretty ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
I go back to the last time we won a league. We had outstanding players. But a midfield of Frandsen, Sellars, Sheridan and Pollock. With Thommo and Johansen in the mix too. They could all play but they also wouldn’t lose any single physical scrap the division offered. I like Thomason a lot but he is ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
There is imo a lack of realism in ‘make santos a better leader’. It doesn’t work like that. He’s in his late twenties has played no higher than this level (for good reason) and lacks the mental focus and concentration across a season and even within games. You can’t suddenly turn a switch or make hi...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
Ah well, at least our keeper will just about do........ OK, so just to recap. You expect us to sign - as an absolute minimum to even compete in this league: Top level, captain-ready centre half + 2 x "Karl Henry-esque" midfielders, at least one who has plied their trade a level above + 2 good winge...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
I think the minimum we need to have any chance… A proper commanding no nonsense centre half who doesn’t go missing. Ideally a leader. And preferably one we play in a back four with Toal or Johnston. Two physically commanding centre mids who can cover ground get round the pitch and do a lot of work. ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
There's loads to be positive about. It's just hard to be so after such a disappointing finish last term. We have a team with loads of goals in it, protected by good contracts and with no players aging out. We've freed up wages and have zero fat. Plenty of managers will envy Evatt's position this su...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
I think that we need some positive / uplifting news ASAP, as being out & about over the BH weekend the fans are completely deflated & flat - no one I spoke to is positive about next season. Nobody will be excited by next season until we are looking set to win the league. Even then there will be fea...

Re: 2024, hoodwink and bamboozle the public
You see your argument about competence is a distraction and do you seriously think there are 16yo taxpayers out there? My argument is they are mostly absolutely clueless at that age about anything outside of social media and what their mates are upto, throw in a lot of parents who still think littl...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?
I’d need the signings of the champ man regens of Bergson and Karl Henry to get anywhere near excited. Can see transition next year… Well exactly. Those are the sorts we need. I’m just convinced that a better manager would add a couple like that and get much more consistency out of what we’ve got. A...
