Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

I'd rather bleach my eyes out that it be Ainsworth. If that's what you want, get yourself one of those dungeons. Ipswich and Plymouth did it last year, Pompey and Oxford this. The only teams to have gone up in the last two years not being modern and front foot have been spending 5 figures a week on ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Yes Allardyce lost three semi finals. Next season he fixed it though and with a far less prestigious squad. And I mean those three semis were off the back of his first half season. Evatt has build this squad up to his exact need. And I’m not having an Ainsworth or a Parky or any experienced manager...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Not sure anyone, anywhere, ever has said that Evatt should carry on as he is. I've repeatedly said he needs to change. I can't speak for all stay-voters, but I'm confident they all think the same to a greater or lesser extent. There's a serious conversation to be had, and it'd be lovely if it start...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Unsurprising that the stay vote is creeping up, given the timing of the initial poll! I have no issue with those who want out. Up to this point the criticism has been daft. This is the first time he's failed, but he's failed. Not by much, 3rd and a play off defeat is as close as you can get without ...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

While I was disappointed in him, Sheehan didn't simply hide - Harris is a brilliant pressing striker who positions himself well. Sheehan could have done more to help but all their front three did a great job of cutting off passing lanes (Sheehan and WBs). Sheehan is harder than he looks - he gets k...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

It's a lot harder (but not impossible) to change it in game. But he said they knew what Oxford were going to do, prepped for it, and wasn't surprised. So either they got the prep wrong (tried to do the wrong thing), or tried to do the right thing but the players weren't up to it. Either way that's a...

Yeah it's both true that we were awful, and that they absolutely nailed it. Could see the plan and they got it bang on.

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Change to a 433, however you cut it, and the FB isn't the striker's job anymore. Dion's pressing stays contained and we get more minutes out of him. Essentially you press with 3 (or 4 if you want to play a 10 to do that) rather than 2. Dion's phenomenal work rate aside he's not quick enough to run ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Bax Jones/Cogley - Santos - Toal - Iredale Dempsey - Sheehan - Tomo Randy - Charles - Collins That's not a bad base. Not enough on it's own, but with a whole summer it seems very doable to me. Decent XI. I would argue CMG could cut in from either flank. As usual, you make a convincing case. But it ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I don't think we need much for a system change. A couple of wingers and replace any outgoings. Not convinced Santos or Dion would suit the system particularly less. Rico has looked like a world beater and a donkey in both. He was excellent in the league two run next to Baptiste. It also simplifies t...

Given I live about a mile from the ground I was thrilled city win yesterday. Last thing I needed was a week long street party. Saw photos on twitter of their forlorn looking victory arch

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

I'd be happy with Ashworth in a back 4. If we're looking to sign him to play in a 5 I'm officially worried. Good player, lots of headroom but never a wing back. In fact I'm convincing myself we are have to him as part of the third great formational re-set. Is Iredale under contract? You'd think he'd...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

A huge amount of it is the system, IMO. Too many "failure" points where if that goes wrong we are knackered. Sheehan is excellent, but lacks physically, and even if any of the others wanted the ball in our half we can't do that because they are needed to get up and support the front two/be close to ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Oh and if he does go Buckingham-type is exactly what we need. Duff and Ainsworth? Jesus Christ on a bike. I swear some of fanbase are masochists. Aside from needing to bleach the eyes of 25,000 people, you'd need to rip it all up and start again. Pompey and Oxford this year, Ipswich and Plymouth las...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Temperature is understandably running hot! I think he'll be given next season and I think that's right, but I wouldn't be laying any money on him still being manager this time next season. That was truly terrible yesterday, and next season is a long time away but fans have long memories and there ar...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

I think it's fairly obvious that it's unrealistic to expect every season to be the best ever. Not every year can be 97. Port Vale was amazing. For me Wembley last year topped it (and I wasn't at Peterborough or Forest), and maybe Saturday will, but even if not for others, we've had some amazing days...

I've loved it. If you said to me we'd lose on sat but win the league next year I'd take it. You can't, obvs, so I'll take a win. But footballs about winning.

Re: Five Year EFL Deal: Death of the 3pm?

Put this here as it's about the wider football "settlement" but I see Shazza has had some pretty strong words for the parliament select committee dealing with the proposed new regulator, about the "greed" of the big clubs.
