Re: Your England XI

He's left himself no choice, really. He's refused to call up and test left backs - so he has nothing to work with. Poor planning. Southgate's approach to football is much more conservative than almost all elite coaches, so the English players other managers might use on the left aren't players he w...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Job very not suited for him in that it’s been a very unstable club - revolving managerial door, boardroom chaos, entitled fans. Is he at more risk there than he would be here? A week ago yes. I'd suggest not now. Yup, either way no promotion probably means the sack. Would be a bigger payout too. I'...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

I think it's really difficult to have formational flexibility when your default is 352. Basically everything else (Dougie's wonky diamond aside, anyone?) anything else needs wingers. You'll get the odd player like Randy who can be as effective in both (Collins too). But even that's a big change in g...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I do think the points required will be less next year. It's not like last season where there were 3 outstanding teams, then a decent group and then the dregs. There will be 8 or do teams who will genuinely think they can win it and will all take points off each other, and then those decent teams and...

Re: Your England XI

Yep. Plus I'm sure none of the other teams will have done their homework. It's not going to be a summer (or two weeks) of watching Trips get shown onto his right on the halfway line meaning Foden sees none of the ball. Trips to Maguire to do that rogue think he does where he gives it the left back a...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Why is our press much more ineffective than oxfords It's not. At the start of the season we were far and away the best pressing outfit. Where that fell down was when we lost Dion and Vic. None of the replacements could do the work. Without one key pressing player it worked, without both it didn't. ...

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread

Yeah, if we need cash one of Dion or Vic makes the most sense. Would be the biggest money in, and whichever system you play next year with everyone fit probably only one starts. Shame, as they'd be a cracking pair for me preferred approach, but can see that. One other point to bang in my campaign fo...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I wouldn't trust Sarce to tell me which way up was, so the pinch of salt I'd take that with would have British Heart staging an intervention. In the very same interview he denies dancing along to their fans singing "Bolton get battered" despite clear evidence he did (which I don't actually care that...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

I think you're saying, probably doesn't get in the way of us, but might hinder his personal development in future. If that's correct, then I genuinely don't care. I was starting to get images of him sitting 13 round a table for the pre-match and making them say Grace... I don't think it hinders us ...

Re: Your England XI

And now the other div in charge of the other team I support has lost his mind again as well.

Lots of fun chat about who goes as the fifth choice central midfielder until they walk out of the tunnel for the first game and someone has to stand on the left of defence.

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

I'd rather bleach my eyes out that it be Ainsworth. If that's what you want, get yourself one of those dungeons. Ipswich and Plymouth did it last year, Pompey and Oxford this. The only teams to have gone up in the last two years not being modern and front foot have been spending 5 figures a week on ...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Yes Allardyce lost three semi finals. Next season he fixed it though and with a far less prestigious squad. And I mean those three semis were off the back of his first half season. Evatt has build this squad up to his exact need. And I’m not having an Ainsworth or a Parky or any experienced manager...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Not sure anyone, anywhere, ever has said that Evatt should carry on as he is. I've repeatedly said he needs to change. I can't speak for all stay-voters, but I'm confident they all think the same to a greater or lesser extent. There's a serious conversation to be had, and it'd be lovely if it start...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Unsurprising that the stay vote is creeping up, given the timing of the initial poll! I have no issue with those who want out. Up to this point the criticism has been daft. This is the first time he's failed, but he's failed. Not by much, 3rd and a play off defeat is as close as you can get without ...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

While I was disappointed in him, Sheehan didn't simply hide - Harris is a brilliant pressing striker who positions himself well. Sheehan could have done more to help but all their front three did a great job of cutting off passing lanes (Sheehan and WBs). Sheehan is harder than he looks - he gets k...

Re: Rising in Wembley's Glow: A Bolton Wanderers Tale - Bolton vs Oxford. 18th May 2024, 4.15pm

It's a lot harder (but not impossible) to change it in game. But he said they knew what Oxford were going to do, prepped for it, and wasn't surprised. So either they got the prep wrong (tried to do the wrong thing), or tried to do the right thing but the players weren't up to it. Either way that's a...

Re: Should I(E) stay or should I(E) go?

Change to a 433, however you cut it, and the FB isn't the striker's job anymore. Dion's pressing stays contained and we get more minutes out of him. Essentially you press with 3 (or 4 if you want to play a 10 to do that) rather than 2. Dion's phenomenal work rate aside he's not quick enough to run ...
