Re: Stadium names

Hi Everyone. Us again. Hope you don't mind us asking a couple more questions. We're interested in the "echoes" of Burnden Park that are around the Macron: 1. Does anyone know who's decision it was to name the road in front of the stadium "Burnden Way"? Was it the club, the council, fan community, ot...

Re: Stadium names

Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread. The next stage of this work is to carry out a focus group with a few Bolton fans, so we wondered whether anyone would be willing to take part in this? We have not set a date for the focus group as yet, but we would imagine it would be towards the ...

Re: Stadium names

I think Bolton Wanderers tick all the boxes in both scenarios. Burnden Park to The Reebok was the important change as far as most Bolton supporters are concerned, I suspect. Subsequent name changes will probably have little impact - unless we call it the Kit Kat Stadium or The Durex Bowl, for examp...

Re: Stadium names

Just to illustrate how upset those Newcastle fans got, here's a few of links to pictures of club employees taking the St James' Park name down off stadium, and then a fan's 'criminal damage' attempting to put it back up, and then more club employees trying to erase that 'damage' (not very effectivel...

Re: Stadium names

Fair point about the obviousness of names and where they come from, but I guess the real question is: If a stadium is a called the Reebok, the Macron, the Pirelli, The Etihad etc., does it really register with fans? Do they actually give a monkeys? More to the point, is it more likely to make them ...

Re: Stadium names

I still called our place 'The Reebok' or 'The Bok' and will probably continue so to do. Enjoying hearing your name suggestions - thanks! Anyone else call it The Bok? How did this name come about? What do you think about when you hear it called "The Bok"? The stadium? Reebok the company? You know, &...

Re: Stadium names

I was hoping that when Reebok ended their relationship with s, we'd name the ground as something proper - The amount we got just about covered Craig Davies's contract - Given the choice of having our 'own' name, or having a shit player that needed paying for, I'd have taken the former option any fe...

Stadium names

Hello all, we are a research team at Manchester University looking at fans’ views on the naming of football grounds. We’re really interested in getting any Bolton fans’ views on the naming and renaming of club’s ground over the years. Would love to know how anyone feels about all those name changes ...
