Re: Brexit or Britin

A correspondence from your foreighn ambassador in the "just don't know" republic: So this is a situation where a wrong decision could have appalling effects on the country in many areas (if what we hear from both sides has any truth) and our venerable government of world leaders answer is to throw ...

Re: What are you reading tonight?

Thanks for the recommendations, looks like I've got plenty to be getting on with :D.

Not read any sci-fi for quite a while, I'll check it out if I like his Thomas Covenant series. Looks like he's got a couple more fantasy novellas (320 pages across both) coming out next month too.

Re: What are you reading tonight?

I've not actually, I'll add it to my list, cheers. I've read through the likes of Song of Ice and Fire, Wheel of Time, Sword of Truth (and obv LOTR / Hobbit) and everything from David Gemmell so far. Brandon Sanderson's books are already on my list too. And I'd definitely recommend the Saxon Stories...

Re: What are you reading tonight?

Recently finished off (well from what's currently been released) Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories series. Took me a while to get into the first book but flew straight through the rest. Well worth reading in my opinion, made learning a bit of Britain's history enjoyable - even though it takes a lot o...

Re: Brexit or Britin

Okay let's see if I can spin that awful bit of PR that is known simply as Trump. As an aside I wish he'd kept his mouth shut on the subject lol. To be fair, he at least has some vested interest in the UK with his investments in UK businesses. Being the type of character (greedy and self-absorbed) th...

Re: Brexit or Britin

I get your points about it being in draft, but at the same time people are still entitled to discuss what the draft is currently proposing. That's usually what a draft is for, to get feedback and see what needs changing. But that draft is still based on years of negotiation, so surely you'd expect i...

Re: Brexit or Britin

It would be struck largely by unelected bureaucrats (Civil Servants largely) on behalf of the Government. Let's agree to disagree there. I feel that the UK public would have a lot more influence over a deal arranged between UK and US than EU and US. There is much less accountability at the EU level...

Re: Brexit or Britin

How will it differ should we Brexit? Will all these things that you're posting "I don't like" about, go away during a UK/US Trade Agreement negotiation? Or are you saying we should just have no trade agreements? Obviously we should have a trade agreement. EU and US already have a trade agreement in...

I think he was just pointing out a manager who did a great job and who knew the club very well.

So it CAN work. Doesn't mean that it will though.

Re: Brexit or Britin

It's one thing already having laws in place that contradict ECHR (not something I'm aware of but I don't doubt it), but introducing brand new ones? I'm not sure they'd let us get away with that/enforcing them, even if we had the balls to do it. Though on the example of prisoners being entitled to vo...

Re: Brexit or Britin

There's been some comments from Theresa May (I think) that we could get rid of the ECHR without leaving the EU. It'd be interesting to see how they'd react to that as I believe that's a key part of their joining criteria. I'm not sure they'd let us get away with that. That's like treating the EU lik...

Re: Brexit or Britin

Lastly, and this probably does border on scaremongering, I would recommend reading up on the TTIP. The proposed trade deal between US and EU. It is a scary thing what the ramifications of it could mean. The Dutch people demanded a referendum over it, a matter of days after they last voted on a Euro...

Also for those who are on the fence, I'd thoroughly recommend the following book, it is pretty heavy on facts and figures but it covers both sides of the argument. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Europe-Everything-Need-Know-ebook/dp/B01C9KXKXW?ie=UTF8&btkr=1&ref_=dp-kindle-redirect" onclick="window.open(thi...

Re: Brexit or Britin

I'm actually glad Farage hasn't been involved in the official out campaign. He's just far too divisive, and bleating on and on about immigration isn't going to win any more people over to the Out vote. I've briefly skimmed through the thread so forgive me if I've missed certain comments etc. As a di...

There's nowt in the rules that says it has to be a currently in work manager... Nah but they are usually out of work for a reason ;). Unless it was Mourinho, I'd certainly rather someone in work who's been doing a fairly decent job. https://twitter.com/Matt_Chambers_/status/725620840369414145" oncl...
