Re: The Great Art Debate

That's exciting really - I wonder what other early colour photographs we have of 'lost' masterpieces. I'm amazed that you should need to ask... this for instance (Klimt's Medicine) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4c/Klimt_hygeia.jpg/200px-Klimt_hygeia.jpg Never seen it in colo...

Re: Petrov to Espanyol

I'm in agreement with what the league demands - but sometimes a game needs that extra spark and quality to win a 0-0. We don't have to start him but I'd rather keep him till the end of the year, even if he is on a fair bit of money.

Re: Petrov to Espanyol

I think the big question is who we can replace him with. We replaced Klasnic with Afobe, for example. He has undoubted quality that can be the difference in a game in this division; this is the kind of player that clubs like Millwall, Watford etcetera do not have. It's the kind of player that eleva...

Gonna stick on The Tenant by Polanski. Very atmospheric film before he (Polanski) became shit.

Film-making but owing to my interest in art, I've chosen twice so far to take art-based essay questions as its permitted.

Re: The Great Art Debate

Personally I wouldn't say that shouts any message at all. Just an artist painting something he may see in the countryside. This one, in contrast shouts loud and clear. http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/2721/revow.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us But often subtlety is more beautiful. When it was fir...

Re: The Great Art Debate

The essay I'm going to be writing :) Final year of Uni. I'm recently getting into colorists, such as Malevich and Albers, but I haven't yet discovered them all.

Re: The Great Art Debate

Jugs - or anyone else - can you have a stab at explaining Richter's abstract paintings to me? Has he done anything other than invent the squeegee technique and try it with every colour palette possible? I hadn't before heard of Richter so I couldn't offer much. But from the overview that I've just ...

Re: The Great Art Debate

I've recently become a member of something on Facebook called 'Artfinder', which emails me a work of art everyday to consider and perhaps comment on. Today's example is an interesting one in the context of the 'do I need an art degree to appreciate this?' discussion. You will see my comment on this...

Re: What are you reading tonight?

I got into Hamsun by reading Mysteries last month :) The synopsis for Hunger sounds like something I'd want to read so its my next logical step with this writer. Have you read much by him?

Re: What are you reading tonight?

The Great Gatsby (the novel) itself has a very cinematic feel. I have to say that I've never been a big fan of American fiction but then I read William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying over Christmas and thought it was awesome; its a piece of modernism and because its so avant-garde, Faulkner could be as e...

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread

I noticed Craig Davies getting on the scoresheet a number of times last season for Barnsley and thought he looked like a very accomplished finisher. I wouldn't argue with this one for 300k, I reckon it'd be a good signing.
