Re: Checkmate...

Absolutely goosed. Started the first of my three games today at 10am, finished my third at 9pm. All of this on the back of a crushing hangover. Ugh. Lost the first game due to blundering an exchange, drew the second after committing an endgame sin, and won my last one. Back at it tomorrow at 10, hop...

Because he hasn't got the head for it, for me. Would have bell there anyway, seeing as he's one of the few who can weather storms.

that depends if you class a stream as a river, spotty... :D I would take up the mantle to argue but i'm afraid i would be out of my depth. This factoid came from my friend who works on the newspapers in the South Hams district, and is mainly backed up from the small army of readers who write in and ...

Re: The Christmas thread

Nah i love Christmas really, mostly for the time off! but i do enjoy the whole palaver tbf, especially with little uns. But what I don’t like is having it rammed down my throat. It’s all the xmas trees posted on facebook that do my head in, and the vulgar ‘all the presents laid out’ shots which are...

Re: Spotty's Little Known Facts

At the weekend I learned that the good folk of Kingsbridge don't like it when people call their aptly named Kingsbridge Estuary an estuary. It is actually a ria.

I didn't know what a ria was. turns out it's an estuary that doesn't have any rivers flowing into it, so therefore it isn't an estuary.

Re: Checkmate...

haha, same! our club uses wooden boards for matches, there is something very pleasing about sliding pieces across it :) well, we'll see. I beat him, then lost in shocking fashion to another guy who i really should have beat (trapped his king in the centre, then decided to just blunder a piece to him...

Re: Checkmate...

Amazing what the 21st century brings :) under 120, so not high. Just looking forward to seeing what it's like, tbh. I'm doing another one the week after, in an attempt to get a grading by January. Not expecting much - last two weeks i've been shocking and lost some awful games - but at least i'll ha...

Re: Checkmate...

Yeah pretty much, though people tend to opt for the one's that chess.com put as macro buttons. Theoretically you can have any length of game.

Got my first OTB tournament this weekend in teh latter format you posted, athers (though it's 80mins with 10sec increment). Looking forward to it.
