Re: The Painting Thread... (as opposed to art debate)
I was there this Summer TD. If I could get my head round posting my own photos up on here I'd show you. Balcon de Europ is very commercial now but still a pretty town. The El Salvador church is a welcome relief from the heat and noise of the day. Wish I was there now. Could do with a bit of 28 plus...

It's now the start of 'visitor season' at work, so way too much eating out commenced last night. We were up at The Fence Gate - I really like it up there. To start: Pea, mint & pesto risotto, aged parmesan shavings. Main: Butter poached hake, fennel & onion bhaji, bombay potatoes, curried butter sa...

I finished Kiran Desai's The Inheritance of Loss this morning. The Booker winner of 2006.
Compelling, rewarding and profoundly pessimistic novel. Glad to have read it. Wouldn't read it a second time.

Even more sure now...speaking at the Cheltenham Literary Festival, Oakeshitt (co-author) admitted the standard of proof they imposed was poor, that the story was unsubstantiated, and that it just illustrated the sort of circles Cameron moved in in his student days and wasn't reportage of what he ac...

Re: Where are you going tonight?
It was a really good night. A real range of poetry - much of it taking the National Poetry Day's official therme - 'LIGHT' - as inspiration. A mix of local poets, published poets, creative writing students, and I loved the poets writing in English, who clearly did not have English as their first la...

So tonight was a fish tagine. :D Hake marinaded in chermoula for a couple of hours. Then in the tagine with potatoes, garlic, paprika, cumin, coriander, peppers, tomatoes, olives and 80ml of water. Bubble for about 30 mins. Fantastic way to defy early autumn chill... The wine was Albarino. would hav...
