Re: The Politics Thread

Tuition fees were a terrible policy. Too scared to call a tax a tax, we'll call it a loan (and therefore a debt) it put all the burden on the young and made it sound scary. That said, abolishing them completely would be a middle class tax break and can't be justified. I'd replace them with a low le...

Is this the milk cup?
Go on then, name all eight sponsors...
Other than Milk and the new one the only ones I could come up with were:

Coca-Cola,
Worthington,
Carling,
Capital One.

Re: The Politics Thread

Interesting policy idea by the Greens. Suggesting a 4 day week. 5 day week has been around for what, a 100 years or so? We're working longer hours but less productive in a more 24/7 economy. Could they be onto something? Not sure that I agree with the above personally, I mean, it's all very well to...

Re: The Politics Thread

I don't think the new Tory policy has it right though. Nor do I. One of the various reasons that I'm currently right up for drawing a massive spunking cock and bollocks (with pubes) on my ballot paper is that all I'm hearing from all sides are pledges without any background working out at all. I qu...

Let's not forget that pensioner households now have higher income than working age households. *income*. But triple lock that down. Millennials all have Insta though, so... Indeed, property is largely exempt from any capital gains tax during a persons lifetime, it appreciates massively in value (pr...

Re: The Politics Thread

Can someone also explain this elderly healthcare business to me please? It was on the news last night that if you have over £100K worth of assets then that must be used to pay for any eventual care required, and hey, this can be paid out of your estate when you snuff it. It said that this amount wi...

Re: The Politics Thread

Interesting that in May's Manifesto launch speech she said 'it doesn't matter where you are from' but at the same time has a policy that means firms will have to pay two grand to hire someone from outside of the EU. How much is that policy going to cost the NHS anyway?

Cheers guys. Doing interval training sessions with this group at my gym on a Thursday has definitely been helping, and now starting to ramp up my weekly mileage so I still think there are some relatively easy gains to be made.

Re: The athletics/running thread

24:46 this morning :D Finally broke that 25 minute barrier and then some, 40 seconds off my PB. Also about 10 seconds quicker than my PB on a flat course, so need to do that again as I reckon I can get in the 23:30-23:45 region.

Re: The athletics/running thread

I'll be there tomorrow attempting to break the 25 minute barrier. Managed 25.25 two weeks ago and felt I had more left in the tank but just set off too quickly last week. Hopefully I'll pace it right this time.

Surely v little chance Fleetwood-Vale ends in a draw? Helps neither of them.
I'm not sure the fact a draw helps neither side makes it statistically less likely. They will both be going for the win and may end up scoring an equal number of goals as a result.

Is there a reason we're playing on the Saturday and everyone else on Good Friday?

Are we on the telly?

I wonder if one, or indeed both, of our central defenders might hit double figures this season as I seem to remember Gudni managing the last time we were promoted.

How's everyone getting on? Training for Hyde Park 10km and Paddock Wood half marathon at the end of March. Having to take a week off though as I have Quadricep tendonitis. Just got back into it. Re: Ken Anderson - New Owner (Definitely. For Now ..... )

It looks to me like he's arguing that the Blumarble thing is nothing to do with Burnden Leisure (as Sports Shield had the facility agreement) and that in any event Burnden Leisure doesn't have the funds to pay. Whilst that might be his point of view (clearly on uncertain ground at the moment), then...
