I'm for folk believing what they like. I expect the same privilege in return. I'm a Catholic and believe in the Bible. It says: Genesis 1:27 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. I'll stick with that. So, given that, what g...

Aaaaaaand now apparently it's LGBT....Q. Queer is no longer the verbal slur it one was and some people like to identify themselves as 'Queer'. Whether they have any more idea than me what it means is a complete mystery. Just help you brush up on Queer Theory... here's a reading list... No need to t...

Re: Shootings and explosions in Paris this evening
The French interior minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, has said 104 people have been placed under house arrest and 168 raids took place last night. Twenty-three people have been arrested, he added. Cazeneuve also confirmed that six people have been stripped of their citizenship since the beginning of the...

He blamed the victims of 9/11 for being complicit in the crimes of the West that led to the attacks. I can't find the article (because googling "Noam Chomskey 9/11" brings you a world of fruitloops and nutjob 9/11 truthers who think he sold them out by deciding he did think bin Laden was behind it ...

Who decided, and when, that using the term "black" is acceptable whereas "coloured" isn't, and why? ... and, what's more, to now get it "wrong" and use the word 'coloured' gets the proverbial ton of bricks come down upon you. As a kid I'd NEVER have said "black" as that would have sounded properly ...

It doesn't justify attacks like yesterday, despite what pillocks like Noam Chomskey might say (has he popped up yet to say they deserved it?) but I think they're counter-productive. It's an ISIS recruiter's dream. Why do you think Chomsky is a pillock? About whom do you expect him to say 'they dese...

Any of you runners ever watched the Tom Courtney film "The Loneliness of the long-distance runner" ? . Granted, it's as much about youthful opposition to authority as running, but I seem to remember it as a good watch with running the main theme. Fair while since I saw it. Just a thought. Classic f...

They might have been right n all. Shakespeare's writing might well have been partly enabled by the 6 months enforced closure of the theatres because of a major outbreak of plague!thebish wrote:aye - everyone in 1606 said that the olden days of 1599 were much better!

Re: What are you reading tonight?
I've just completed '1606' - subtitled 'William Shakespeare and the Year of Lear' by James Shapiro. This is his sequel to his multiple award-winning '1599' which tells the story of the building and opening of the Globe. 1606 was the year that Shakespeare completed three major tragedies - Macbeth, An...

In the middle of probably 5 very wet, very windy, not especially cold days. There is nothing more for it than a 6 hour slow cooked Oxtail Stew, with dumplings and jacket potato. With it a cheeky ... nay, downright impudent, possibly outright rude... Syrah. Over expensive given the cost of the food ...

I'm going and taking Little Miss GtE. Last time we went we got battered 7-1 I expect similair. Has she been bad and needs to be taught a lesson ?? Almost all the tomatoes from the garden now gone. But 4lbs of them went into a tomato and blue cheese soup yesterday and a garlicky pasta sauce. Both delicious.
Was driving to Manchester so no wine to go with either. But would have chosen a light-medium red with either/both.
