Re: Administration and recovery

Emotionally, I agree (and not just for selfish reasons: it’s a bar to those who might rescue any clubs in distress). But I also see why they did it - to stop clubs doing what Leicester and Leeds did in the past, running up debts then shedding them via punishment-free bankruptcy. I don’t know what t...

[Gooner Girl] What a fantastic moment for the young fellow! I hope he remembers it forever. A shame for the result in the final. Bad luck. I suppose my Chelsea following cyberfriend (he gave up going to matches years ago when it became too commercial) will be chortling a little. Cross town rivalry a...

Re: The Politics Thread

What the heck has someone's ignorance in basic geography got to do with racism? Mind you, with 79% of the people surveyed unable to find China on a map does raise questions about the group interviewed. I find it hard to believe that such a percentage of the overall population are so parochial as to ...

Re: Administration and recovery

I'm puzzled by the situation in which we now find ourselves. If the EFL still penalises the club for its past fiscal demeanour (i.e. its previous owners) why should that devolve to a new owner who has satisfied all debts, including the tax man, and shown the ability to now support the financial part...

Hey, GG, welcome back, it's wonderful to see you. I have never forgotten the photograph you posted of your twins walking/waddling down that beautiful track through a copse. :)

Re: The Politics Thread

I cannot comment on the first bit, Spotty, as I don't know your local rules. For instance, I'm not an Australian citizen but am what is termed a Permanent Resident. I am, however, given the privileges accorded to natural or naturalised citizens. Of course there is one down side; should I commit a he...

Re: Independence Day.

I fear that I can smell the aroma of axes being ground. We here have a federal election tomorrow (Saturday) and the stink of extremism during the run up to it is also quite strong. Perhaps I am being misled by the local atmosphere.

Yes, Insano, what's left of my eyebrows rose to my bald patch when I read the result. Looking at the scores (which is all I have seen) seems to indicate a batsman's paradise or some pretty poor bowling and/or captaincy. Two centuries - one each - and decent scores from the other participants pointed...

Ruddy 'eck, TANGO, you had go back a bit to find this thread eh? I don't recall looking at that link when you posted it originally, but I thank you now.

Aye, time does fly, but as age creeps up on us it's carpe diem at each dawn.

Ah, Spotty, dear old Charlie Schulz. He was good. Mind you, I prefer Watterson with Calvin & Hobbes. I have a four volume set of all his syndicated cartoon strips. That's not to say that I don't like Peanuts, just that Calvin (aged 6) and his stuffed tiger seems to tickle my fancy just that teeny bi...

Ah, Macca, I couldn't agree more.

There would be no self respecting football club where I live that would countenance such weeds on their ground.

Re: Red Hats and One-eyed Snakes - the ups and downs of new management.

Whatever the result of this disgraceful brouhaha in which BWFC followers have found themselves involved I shall still wear proudly the as yet unworn BWFC jacket (it's autumn here) that my daughter bought for me as a birthday present and which was imported from the club shop. It was not cheap (she in...

Nor will I, Monty. Nevertheless there is a number of occasions from my youth that I cannot recall. I might add that none of them, as far as I can work out, involved dangling from shelves. :pissed:

This one from my local Daily Telegraph:

"Zachary Guest was woken up by a police officer dressed only in his underwear and dangling from the shelf of a restaurant he broke into."

Brockbank? Blimey, the only Brockbank I've ever come across was a wonderful cartoonist (car related) way back when. I don't know the lad, but perhaps it fits our predicament.
