Hi, I am a Bolton Wanderers fan since I start playing football when I was about 11. I am from
Dublin so you can imagine that I get alot of stick and not many people to discuss Wanderers Current
Affairs with as the majority of Ireland support Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

I look forward to discussing topics with fellow Wanderers fans  .

Hi Eire Trotter. Welcome to TW. What got you supporting the Super Whites? My dad was a Mayo man who thought hurling was the finest sport in the world and put up with football because there was none about in Lancashire.

I grew up in a Leeds/Liverpool house and I guess I wanted to rebel . Seriously tho, I just wanted to be different and didnt wanna get caught up in the Man U vs Liverpool war that my mates were in haha. So I decided to support Bolton. At first Nobody believed I was serious until I start buying the jerseys and showing a real interest in their welfare etc... Now I just put up with the stick but wouldnt change it for the world :D .

Hurling aye? Not a big thing around Dublin these days TD, a dying sport if ya get me.

The Republic state is most of Ireland except the Northern section. Eire (Erin) is the country of Ireland as a whole. Least it was last I heard.

Eire is Ireland in Irish, yes.

When people from the Republic of Ireland refer to their country we say "Ireland" as opposed to The Republic of Ireland. We refer to Northern Ireland as The North.

Hence my username Eire_Trotter as I hail from "Ireland".

No, no, no

I know all that

We've got Northern Ireland and we've got Southern Ireland

As a kid, the Southern Ireland team was known as Eire

HE wants to know when they stopped being called Eire

For instance I had a game on my old NES circa 92? which had the Rep Ireland team down as Eire

I'm quite young compared to CAPS so I can't remember what else, but I'm assuming thats what the team would be called on the tele (as in Holland are the Netherlands etc)...

I'm not sure when the football team stopped being called Eire but I'm sure it was way before my time but my username is nothing to do with international team name, it just refers to the country.

Say what you like about Wikipedia - it appears to have nailed this one fairly comprehensively.

Oh, and welcome Eire Trotter! I think you'll like it here.
