Being from Liverpool, you're probably oblivious, but driving through parts of Liverpool is not disimilar to Beirut.blurred wrote:Saw this on the Fiver yesterday...
I do wonder quite what point they're making, though. Do we have a history of stadium fires at Anfield or something? Both imaginative and hilarious in equal measure...
Surely not both?Crouch > Davies wrote:Stadium designs can't please everyone. Personally I think it's an awesome looking bit of work, it's going to be unique and it's going to be different from anyone else. That picture of the new Kop sends a shiver down my spine - I want to be a part of that and I can't wait. The whole project sounds so, so exciting. It's going to be amazing.
Just think of how you felt when you first pored over the plans for the Reebok the very first day they were released. That's how we feel now. Well, how I feel at any rate.
As other people have alluded to, I'd expect the projected appearance to 'develop' as they get closer to construction. And yes, despite my misgivings about the design, it's good to have a stadium that doesn't look like it's arrived on the back of a Swedish lorry.

Is this 'regeneration project' solely where the old stadium stands?
Are they not building a car park/train station also?

There's a general regeneration of the area around the current Liverpool stadium (houses being cleared and rebuilt), and 'Anfield Plaza' as it was known will be on the site of where the stadium currently sits - the plan for this at the moment is to retain a pitch-sized area of grass among this redevelopment, which I think is a great idea.
The train station thing is a slightly seperate issue - if we wish to have any more than the 60,000 agreed in the planning document at this stage then we have to be able to get them in/out of the area - the easiest way to do this is to redevelop/rebuild a closed train station that sits on the loop line about 10 minutes walk away (at the far end of Stanley Park).

All of it? Is this stadium being dropped into the middle of a public park?blurred wrote:It's called Stanley ParkDave Sutton's barnet wrote:Seems to be an awful lot of greenery around that...blurred wrote:A different view:
if there's ever a photograph of the finished product with half that much greenery on I'll be surprised. Is Stanley Park four miles across?
Well the near-side of the main road that you can just about see is Stanley Park, the far side is part park and there's also a cemetary there. It's all open space, however.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:All of it? Is this stadium being dropped into the middle of a public park? Click Here - on this map the new stadium moves pretty much to where the 'V' is, ie the very near corner of Stanley Park.
You can also see the trainline on this map, currently used only for freight. The new station would be down past the cemetary, which is about a 10 minute walk to Anfield.

Which company do you think would actually benefit to the tune of £100million as a result of being the name of Liverpool's stadium? It seems like a hell of a chunk out of an advertising budget to me.blurred wrote:Dozens more likely than them - although I would like the ironyBatman wrote:My point was actually about likely sponsors.....but no need to get all defensive
