Heskey Retires From International Football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

It's his fault the manager always picks him?

The guy did what he was asked to do, hold up play and link up with Rooney.

I agree he's not international quality, but it's not his fault that Capello picked him.

I repeat, it's about fcking time.

I'll remind you of such sentiments the next time you slag a player off - 'is it his fault the manager picked him?'

Lets not be hypocrites about this.

Anyway, if you prefer...'he's no longer available for selection - about fcking time'

He stopped playing for England a long time ago, if he ever started.

Not a fan of footballing international retirements though, if we've got a manager stupid enough to want to pick him, he should be allowed to do so.

That's rather harsh - you think that if a manager calls someone up, they should be obliged to say, "yes"?

What penalties would you impose on those who refused?

Because, surely, all international retirement amounts to is the statement that you won't say "yes" when the manager calls you up to play.

France succesfully appealed against Makelele's International retirement, they FORCED him to play, or he could have been banned from playing for Chelsea.. Can't remember the rule, but it stood. But I suppose it was Platini's France V Horrible, bastard English Premier League team

Wonder if Aldridge Pryor has retired yet?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Why doesn't he just play for N. Ireland? A waste really.

The footballing equivalent of the Light Brigade. But the truth is that Heskey was only selected because we don't have the lone striker needed to play 4-2-3-1.
