suppose wigan have mortgages to think about bless them. Quite happy to name and shame here. It also says a lot about the cultures of some clubs. Fulham apparently were told they HAD to, others have clearly just tossed this aside unaware of the impending PR disaster.

I recall Big Kev Nolan including a piece about this in his BBC column; he'd tried to encourage the rest of our squad to donate as his girlfriend is a nurse.

I don't know if people should be "named and shamed" if they don't contribute?

Isn't charity quite a personal thing?? Should a rich footballer contribute to every single good cause going round?? I've heard tell of some generous premiership souls who work very hard with charities close to their own hearts so might not feel any affinity with this one? Don't some overseas footballers do massive things in their own country to help combat serious poverty? (I think I remember Kanu or someone similar doing a huge effort for his native area??)

Perhaps also some may believe that setting up a harship nurses isn't the responsibility of the well-off and more the responsiblity of the government???

I'm not necessairly agreeing with these points, more just raising as a way of saying perhaps people don't always feel the need to contribute to a particular cause. One of my close friends is training as a nurse and there is no way I could cope with what she sees on a regular basis, I'm a complete mardy with blood and vomit and other kinds of yakkyness, but she's chosen to go into it thankfully. My other friend's aunt was a midwife for many years but after poor wages (£13k at the time) looong hours plus the increasing responibility for more mother and babies than was really safe she jacked it in. She now works for a private organisation advising expectant mothers on a phoneline for much better pay.

Compared to a premiership footballer, nurse's pay is a ridiculous joke.... but then should that be the footballers issue????????

Who cares, it's their money, they can do what they want with it, maybe the Chelsea players already give enough of their money to charity. I certainly wouldn't give a day's pay to nurses.

from what i gather giggs and neville started it. funny how none of their teammates jumped on that particular bandwagon

and also the teams who did: reading, bolton, sheff utd, fulham, jackburn, watford.... hardly the richest clubs. then the ones skiving are the ones who get paid perhaps a little better man utd, chelsea and arsenal

considering if a player ends his career he could be in the hands of such a nurse i think i'd be in for cheering them up

another view point is that we are actually talking about a lot of money. in some cases 15k. tis a lot of cash to give away no matter what proportion of your wage it is.

i wonder what game the media are actually playing printing this? must really be struggling to fill space

Which people would complain about. Thus creating a vicious circle of "Nurses deserve more pay, but I won't be the one paying".
