Fifa man opposes England 2018 bid

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Fifa man opposes England 2018 bid

Post by bobby5 » Thu Aug 09, 2007 6:41 pm

This guy Warner has a serious beef with England. And there's me thinking FIFA supported fair play
"If the World Cup were to go to Europe, I'm quite sure, with the English luck as it is, they won't get it," Warner told BBC World Service.

"There are moves to give it to England. I must fight that."
Warner, a member of the world football body's executive committee since 1983, added: "It will be Italy, Spain, or even France who will get the World Cup if it goes to Europe.

"Nobody in Europe likes England. England invented the sport but has never made any impact on world football."

Christ, I don't want the Cup here either, it would be a shambles.

Oh aye, 'no impact on world football'. Not like that CONCACAF region he represents, and where he wants the tournament to go.

If Europe does get it, then logically it has to be England, since the other main options - France, Italy, Spain, and Germany - have all hosted it since we did. However, FIFA are rarely logical...

How dare you all have a pop at Austin 'Jack' Warner. The man is of the utmost unimpeachable integrity...

can I just point out his words?? Where does he say he hates England, he says the rest of Europe does. And frankly they do.

The only point to argue is whether or not we've ever had much impact on World football bar inventing the game. Now minus one World Cup, we probably haven't really but then again, neither have Spain or Mexico or USA or Japan & Korea, all of whom seemed to be perfectly good venues for the tournament.

The point is though not whether England deserve it but the fact that this Warner chap is waging some sort of vendetta on England. If he was arguing that the infrastructure wasn't in place, the standard of the league is poor or even the hooligans then he might have a valid point. This bile he's sprouting is just nasty and vindivtive. The fact that this guy is in a position of influence makes it all the worse. Makes you sick really.

Btw, to quote Kevin Keegan "I'd love it" if the World Cup was staged in England again.

Point taken, but I want to be able to see the world cup live. In 1994 I wasn't a football fan.

We might do all right there, us playing in white and all that.

Then again, McClaren would probably insist on the red strip
