Tonight's Football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Average season ticket price £1268.

Out of their way indeed…….
Could be worse. Mates of mine are spending £2k to watch Spurs. I mean come on...

Look on the bright side, they shunt managers, but their club identity remains pretty constant

Another business with a vestigial football club attached, unfortunately.

I like Postecoglou, so I'm hopefully he will at least be fun in way Bielsa was. He needs time, though. He could just as easily be 16th after 15 games as 6th. If he is I fear Levy will panic and sack him.

That's the sorta consistency to strive for! Club identity etc (Levy bit)

For me, he should have been chased out when he sacked Mourinho 6 days before a cup final so he'd not have to risk sacking a cup winner. That was the end of any argument that he was trying to run a football club and not just a business that happens to include a sports club of some kind.

That's sort of the point. It's OK having the identity as part of the Club, when that identity matches one you were hoping for. If I was a Spurs fan, I'd probably prefer the managers identity and team than Levy's...

Arsenal and spurs very much of a muchness. Both completely soulless corporate entities that have essentially told their traditional fanbase to do one.

They aren’t the only ones but they are the most egregious examples along with Chelsea.

If Chelsea have managed to get rid of their traditional support well done to them.

I don’t normally want English teams to win in Europe (apart from Arsenal obviously) but found myself quite pleased for West Ham last night.
Me too. Nice to see someone in London can win a trophy :D
Can’t decide which I would prefer more. The glory of the papa johns trophy or a season of champions league football ahead….
Winning something? I'd rather be shit and won a pot, than nearly not and won absolutely feck all.
I’d rather be a football club than a corporate entity. Arsenal died as a meaningful football club serving a local community long ago.
In your (largely uneducated) opinion. This season (and the end of last) has been some of the most connected with the club and team I’ve felt in a long time. I can’t put my finger on why exactly, it’s not just that results have been better, there’s more to it than that. The atmosphere is belting at the moment and yes, they are a big business compared to smaller football clubs but they are one of the clubs that go above and beyond to connect with the local community IMHO. So respectfully, I disagree.
Average season ticket price £1268.

Out of their way indeed…….
I can take my children to watch an Arsenal premier league game for a grand total of about £13 each. £10 ticket for junior gunners and about £3 rail fare. Adult tickets this season have cost me from £27. I don’t think that’s unreasonable for top level football in this country.

Jack's going to have some headache before that Malta game.

England again tonight vs Malta posing the age old question does anyone really care. I'd be confident an England D team could rock up and get past Malta.

More goals for Kano I guess.

I am an England fan to be fair and get to a few games

Got tickets for Monday night and taking my son to his first England Mens game

Wouldn't bet against 2 entirely different teams playing Friday / Monday - 11 changes for Monday's game and a couple of debuts handed out. Can't see Jack playing tonight, as Pru says. Bet he absolutely stinks

Absolutely ridiculous for England to be playing games less than a week after the season ended.

I agree, but it does keep the Footy Calendar going a little bit longer, which is good for me

I just wish they'd turn it into a tournament instead. This is a tease and just prevents players from actually taking time off.

Yep. These are supposed to be meaningful competitive games, as they're qualifiers, but they'll be played like Friendlies - They'll be saying "one last push lads, then he's holiday time" but they're already there mentally and probably physically too.

The league season finished for half the squad 2 weeks ago and the rest have played their legs out.

It's a glorified friendly when alls concerned. Nothing competitive about this fixture. A walk over for England.

It should be competitive. Less fixtures in the Premier league to account for resting players and yet more chappy pointless fixtures for England. Could quite easily be another game for the Prem.

Decent game and 3-0 would have done as the handball penalty was a joke. Well impressed with Alexander Armstrong and his goal was vintage Brazil. We have a good strong squad (Luke Shaw apart who I've never rated----sends the ball backwards far too often ) and the Prem bores me to tears at times. Malta defended well and kept the score sensible. All in all, a decent night.
