Tonight's Football

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Why is there this constant bitching about how pointless this game is?

Yes San Marino are bottom of the rankings - somebody has to be. Where do we draw the line for teams who aren't worth our time?

As pointed out, we struggle to break down top sides and our play in the last third lets us down. I think this is a useful exercise in working out why it is we struggle to break teams down.

entirely agree.. all this "what's the point of San Marino" and "the real question is why do we even have to be playing them" etc. is, frankly, embarrassing - especially as it is only 2-0 and we are at home...

Am I being a proper girl here or does anyone else feel sorry for San Marino's goalie?

Yes & No.

Perhaps Ireland should have to play pre qualifying games in future? 1-6 at home to the mighty Germans

I doubt Ireland sat 11 men parked in front of goal.. Some of these San Marino players can't even kick a ball properly.

As long as San Marino are happy to play then I don't see a problem myself. Imagine the party when they do actually beat someone after losing the last 54 games

Cracking game between Shrewsbury and Walsall. Shrewsbury's 'keeper's having an absolute blinder.

I've long since thought there'd be value to these smaller nations having the option (chose one only) of entering a 'smaller nations World Cup'.

Never fully thought through the details, but it would stop these nonsense matches and give them something to play for.

To be honest, jaffka, you'll find me watching Shrewsbury v Walsall long before you'll ever find me sat in front of Barcelona v whoever.

Following in Joe Hart's footsteps?

Incidentally Joe Hart comes across as a good bloke.
He was a County standard youth cricketer - opening bowler as I recall - and has used some of his Citeh millions to help Shrewsbury cricket club improve their facilities.
Not surprisingly they love him there

Rain.

Someone on Facebook says it is off but BBC not said so yet. Shame, was looking for an excuse to go to the pub!

The heavens have opened and the pitch is waterlogged......the stadium has a roof though, but the Poles didn't want it closed.
