Re: Marcos Alonso to Sunderland.
He was cleared of manslaughter. After being arrested for a drink-driving in which a person died during the crash, the Spanish authorities didn't follow the correct procedure for determining how much alcohol was in his system at the time of the crash, so the evidence was classed as inadmissible.Tufty wrote:As you probably heard Marcos Alonso has made a loan move to Sunderland. As a Sunderland supporter I would just like to ask what you think of him as a) a left back and b) a left sided midfielder. Also is there any interesting stories or things we might need to know about him?
P.S. Would you in admin mind if I link this thread to Black Cat Chat to share your answers ?
Or something.

He can't defend for shit. Which may be a problem. At least you've got Wes Orange though.

See Pru, I apologise, if I'm being a pleb. But I don't know if thart's sarcasm or not.. because everytime I've seen Terry Brown, he's been absolutely magic. A few years younger and he'd be my first choice for England CB

Never knew this is what happened, don't remember it in the press at all.boltonboris wrote:He was cleared of manslaughter. Same here. I knew it had all gone quiet but didn't know it had been dismissed.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Marcos Alonso to Sunderland.
I always thought he were poor apart for the odd game and a run in his final season with us. Good technique, poor defender but reasonable going forward. If he's playing against a decent winger then close your eyes. He's probably more suited to midfield.
Re: Marcos Alonso to Sunderland.
may be a false memory - but i remember him linking well with elmander and Mavis and stuey and co - but being less than reliable in defense...
Re: Marcos Alonso to Sunderland.
I've only seen him twice this year, and he was sent off in both (though once harshly)! Legs looked to have massively gone to me, but only a small sample.boltonboris wrote:See Pru, I apologise, if I'm being a pleb. He'll be getting a lot of practice if he's next to Alonso though!

At least he managed to score in the penalty shoot out. Liked the story from commentator during the game that said his grandfather played against Manure for Real Madrid and his father played against them for Barcelona, bet he was straight on the phone home tonight after the game.

I bet they'd both beat him in a sprint now!Tufty wrote:At least he managed to score in the penalty shoot out. Seriously though, held his nerve well. People go on about a lottery, but I bet it settles the nerves some when you have confidence in your technique.

Re: Marcos Alonso to Sunderland.
Only saw the penalties, young Marcos' had the best of the lot. Real Madrid mate.

talking of sunderland...
it seems the problem with Di Canio was nowt to do with his managerial skills - but that none of the players were as good as him!

Re: Marcos Alonso to Sunderland.
It is/was, from what I heard. He doesn't understand that he was a bit special and asks ordinary players to do what he used to.bobo the clown wrote:Wasn't that one of Hoddle's big failings ?thebish wrote:talking of sunderland...
