Euro 2028

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Looks like this will be coming to UKI after Turkey have withdrawn and were the only other bidders...

It's Coming Home Nations.

Well, plus Ireland.

Which might have voted to reunify by then...

They've buddied up with Italy for a long-distance co-host of Euro 2032.

Don't forget they're still literally picking up the pieces after an earthquake that damaged an area the size of Germany and affected 14 million people - which critics say is because the government backslid on housing quality regulations

I think they've probably calculated that it costs millions and millions to host a tournament. To be honest I'm slightly surprised they've left it this long, but then they have quite recently had an election, and then this weekend someone blew himself up at the ministry gates so they arrested 700 or so people, as you do

Well the WC has just been announced to span three continents in 2030....Starting out in S.America then moving onto Spain/Portugal and Morocco....

2034 it can only go to Asia or Oceania....The Saudi's are lining up a run. I mean, FIFA must be rubbing their hands having already decided....

Sorry, I didn't just mean Turkey. I mean literally the whole of Europe

We all know that FIFA have given tournaments to the most crooked countries in the past, which begs the question... are we the baddies?

I was working on the day FIFA gave 2018 to Russia and 2022 to Qatar. The disbelief among journos was palpable and looking back (perhaps with #narrative) that seems like when I realised football had jumped the shark, as the phrase has it, and I should look to get out.

That was a genuine shock but it's now accepted that they basically do whatever they want whenever they want, no matter who's in charge and how many show trials they have.

Saudis announced a 2034 bid within about 10 minutes.

They'd jumped the shark long before that. There's history of dodgy decisions such as those around South Korea vs Italy. If that wasn't indicative of corruption then there were a number of significant instances since.

I think that the corruption has got incredibly overt and blatant over the years as it becomes clear there's no punishment for it that would affect them greater than the money they make.

I'm confident the Saudis will get it.

The beautiful game might not be so beautiful anymore now it's covered in tarnish but it's still built on the backs of genuinely skilled individuals, and no amount of corruption can take that away.

TBF, Mar. It's been a tarnished game, for the (nearly) 60 years I've been alive. How good would City be on our budget? It was barely a competitive sport in the 1970's.. And if you wanna go back a bit further, you could look up Ross Edwards and his bent meat.

There probably hasn't been any sort of "level playing field" since they were all hiding money from the wage cap.

It's been dirty for 60 years. The marketing bullshit makes it "beautifu.l" And for balance, the two sports I love way more than football are going exactly the same way...

The USA being the World Police tried doing something about corruption in Football. FIFA just gave them a World Cup to make it go away and they gladly took it.

@Worthy – Louis Edwards rather than Ross? The shares dealings by which the Edwards acquired the club were also deeply deeply questionable.

@Mar (and others) - There have always been questionable decisions at the level of who gets a penalty kick; I didn't fall wet-eared out of a tree the day before. But when FIFA just nakedly gave two extreeeeeeemely questionable countries the World Cups for the next decade, I started to question what I was doing with my professional life.

Now I'm in news and obviously there's all sorts wrong with The World, but I don't feel as disillusioned by that.

The only way it changes if we the public boycott it and the brands that sponsors and fund the corrupt wankers. Never going to happen. I stopped watching it years ago.

Corruption and FIFA, who would have guessed?

Well mainly corruption except in the case of Russia when the officials got a tour of high-rise buildings complete with windows.
