Why would any buyer bother completing till Tuesday now? They'd just let Ken pay the wages....

So they could have a huge take-over blow out party on Saturday and thus have all Sunday to recover before going to work on Monday to make sure they are getting twenty dirhams on their shekel! Has to be more to it than one payment of wages, surely. The wages seems fairly straight-forwards. You pay them Ken and we'll go with our original offer. You don't pay them Ken and we reduce our original offer by £600k or whatever the number is...How long would that convo take?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 3:35 pmWhy would any buyer bother completing till Tuesday now? I believe the question was why anyone would complete now.
Your answer doesn't make it more reasonable to complete before Tuesday, it makes it less likely.

He may be hoping that the Monday thing buys him the weekend to try to rustle up a counter-offer from Kenyon (now described by Nixon as "lurking").Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 4:51 pmHas to be more to it than one payment of wages, surely. Or a simple damage-limitation thing: he's paid the minor wages (staff, caterers and youth team) to make sure the game goes on, so maybe he panicked and worried this would threaten the game tomorrow; it can't – they won't strike because that would definitively lose a PR war in which Ken's now doing a Guernica on himself – and legally even if unpaid they remain under contract until March 14th, ie 14 days after the due date. That's next Thursday, but it surely won't go on that long.
I'm now intrigued, though, by the possibility of the Davies family claiming the club as Ken defaults on the deathbed loan. He plainly doesn't have the money and the club is the collateral. What I'm not sure about is the terms of that default, and whether they'd want the faff of effectively temporarily owning a football club, not to mention any tax implications therein. They now have two fairly solid bidders...

Depends is Kenneth is still after an auction. Ah yes. Latest word is that Basran has an exclusivity clause which lapses on (possibly) Sunday. Hence Kenyon lurking, quite possibly knowing the pricetag but ineligible to bid just yet. Hence also Ken's konfidence that the players will get paid Monday.
So it's the return of our old friend 48hrs.
It has been pointed out that Sunday is three years to the day since the Ken'n'Dean takeover. Let's hope the next one is more stable and sensible - whenever the bugger happens.

Re: Ken Anderson - New Owner (Definitely. For Now ..... )
But, even in an auction situation, why would anyone buy now when they could wait 'til Tuesday and get it cheaper. Even those thinking of bidding for a lot wait for the auctioneer to start proceedings, otherwise it's just a best offer, and unless you're an idiot even best offerers know when to strike a bargain, which will be Tuesday, not today...chester white wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 5:21 pmDepends is Kenneth is still after an auction. Re: Ken Anderson - New Owner (Definitely. For Now ..... )
would it be cheaper though if they wait 'till Tuesday?
For the sake of argument, lets say the offer on the table is 20 million.
Today it costs you 20 million, plus another 600k (or whatever) for the wages on Monday
On Tuesday, after Ken's paid the wages on Monday, it still costs you 20 million, and you owe Ken an additional 600k for the loan he makes to the club for the wages.
I think the only way of getting it any cheaper is to wait for the club to fall into administration, whereby lots of liabilities will be wiped, so you gain value there.....

Also, by Tuesday, Peter Kenyon's in the queue with someone else's chequebook – and you (the buyer, Basran) have no idea what number he's gonna write.
(Admin has its own costs and risks. Especially when there's more than one potential buyer, I'm not seeing a benefit to it.)

I'm at a loss as to why anyone would want to buy a football club, let alone us. The riches of the premier league, should we ever get there again, surely aren't so much that you could pay players and their agents the necessary squillions AND the owners and leading shareholders would all make a massive profit too?

If you're careful, there's money to be made in that division. Trouble is, there's likely to be another division in the way first, and it's one where no bugger at all makes money.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 6:11 pmI'm at a loss as to why anyone would want to buy a football club, let alone us. I'm not sure which is the most irritating topic currently, Referendum of ReferKendom. Both are dragging on with all the interest and excitement of an episode of Mrs Dale's Diary.

Promotion to the Prem is worth £170m at the absolute minimum. Yes, most of that goes on increased wages, but the value of the club also soars. West Brom were sold for £150m, Southampton £200m. Even as a newly promoted Prem club, we could be instantly worth £80m - £100m. Stay up a season or two and that increases. Paying £25-£30m for us when we had a chance of staying up, made a lot of sense for someone who had that kind of money, and wanted the exposure of being the owner of a football club.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 6:42 pmIf you're careful, there's money to be made in that division. I have no clue at all however why someone would buy us now, unless they think they can turn this season around, which looks close to impossible, particularly as the current set up will be in charge, or be the major influence for the next two games, and likely the Wigan game next Saturday. From there we will have only eight games and some of them look too difficult to get anything from regardless. This is why I am very concerned that Ken has missed the final off ramp.

Personally, if it weren't the very future of our club involved, it would serve him right if all parties packed their briefcases, said, "See you" and walked away.bristol_Wanderer3 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 7:00 pm

Maybe Ken wants the money from the Millwall game to recoup some of what he paid out to staff, and to pay the players as he should have before closing shop.

I'll be delighted if I'm proven wrong, but I can't picture any deal being agreed before the morning of the 20th.
