Relegation XI
Turning a usually happy concept on its head so that it's sad and grey but hopefully still fun, who would make your 'best of the rest' squad from the players we've had since we dropped out of the Prem?
Pick a starting team, five subs and a manager.

Oh like it. Torturing and tortuous at the same time!
Manager: Phil Parkinson
-----------------------Bogdan---------------
Olkowski---Dawson-Holding-Alonso (spit)
---------------Mavies--Henry
SammyAmmy---LCY----------Clough
------------------------Juke------------------
Lonnergan
Wheater
Vela
Gudjohnsen (because)
Madine
Felt like Holden would be cheating.

Re: Relegation XI
A bold move. For me, I wouldn't be able to pass on trying to get Clough, Alf, LCY and Ameobi in the same team with Juke as a target. Would love to get Mavies in there too but we'd need some midfield aggression and let's assume Mavies is injured anyway.
And with all that B-class creativity, I couldn't have Parky, but the manager pick is really tough.
Manager: One year contract for Lennon IF Johan Mjällby comes with him
Bogdan
Olkowski Dawson Holding Alonso
Ameobi LCY Spearing Clough
ALF Juke
Subs:
Alnwick
Wheater
Henry
Vela
Madine

Re: Relegation XI
He's bloody Owen Coyle more like looking at that team !
I liked ALF but always thought he was a bit (whisper it) overrated. He'd probably make the bench for Eidur if I was thinking straight.

Re: Relegation XI
Not bad.
Wingers are tough, we've only really had Sammy and in patches Eagles look Champo quality. Du get rid of them.
But if you're playing wing backs I reckon I might just have Alonso, the prick, over Warnock!

Might just fit the postman in there somewhere, with a bit of punch on the end of his deliveries.

Re: Relegation XI
I've just calculated that (according to Wiki) we've had 138 players make at least one Champo or League One appearance since summer 2012.
I'm pondering putting the list up as a Sporcle fill-in-quiz challenge, if anyone fancies.

All I know is, Lennon went off the rails along with the team once Johan left... Any other qualities are a bonus
Forgot Morais! Good call. I'd be tempted to have him instead of Ameobi. Stick Ameobi on the bench instead of Vela.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 1:57 pmMight just fit the postman in there somewhere, with a bit of punch on the end of his deliveries.

Got 89.
Point of order, I think it's only out of 136, Medo (/Mohammed Kanara) and Derik (/Derik Osede) appear twice.
Most appearances I didn't get was good old Wardrobe. Must have blanked him out for some reason.

Re: Relegation XI
While I liked Mjallby, the team had gone off the rails before that.
The Celtic trio had arrived in October 2014 with us having won 5pts from 11 games. From their first dozen games, up to and including beating Blackburn at home on Boxing Day (our 23rd game - halfway through the season), we won 7, drew 3 and lost 2 for 24 points from 12 games - 2ppg, promotion pace.
Then from Dec 28 to the end of the season, with Mjallby still at the club, we got 22 points from 23 games (W5 D7 L11). Lots of things can influence form but the main change here was that Lennon, having spent time with his compatriot Brendan Rodgers around our Third Round tie with Liverpool, decided to switch to a back three which we were patently unable to play.
I don't know how enthusiastically Mjallby agreed with Lennon on the back three, but he left in Sep 2015 citing "personal differences". We had won one of our first seven when he was replaced by Steve "Fletch off Porridge" Walford. We won one of the next 19.

Congrats, that's more than I'd get, and I published the bastard thing. Noted on dupes, I'll edit.

There was Karajan too who, under a different manager/system might have done more good.Branagan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 3:05 pmAll I know is, Lennon went off the rails along with the team once Johan left... Any other qualities are a bonus
