Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
In the movie Sadlier would come in and score 20 goals, sending us up and winning us the cup at Wembley.
Unfortunately the reality is that this is bloody awful news.
As it stands, Sadlier is definitely now in the forward rotation.
Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Awful news, but at least we have a few weeks to try to fill the hole. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a slight pivot of the transfer strategy this window now.

Inevitable now. Were he out for a few weeks, we'd maybe have limped through; but now we have a major issue.
We need to announce at least one signing before the weekend and, unfortunately, if that means throwing whatever Dapo money is going to Evatt at the issue it may have to happen. Hopefully an otherwise summer target can be bought out early.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
And now we've lost 3 of 4 strikers from last season.
Bare minimum now is 2 strikers and a number 10.
Also at least one of the strikers has to be able to play in the cup. No good going to Accrington with Kachunga up front. No use at all that.
And here is why long term planning is useless. At least we have a bit of notice but we have 11 days to do some serious wheeler dealing stuff.
Probably going to have to spend some money. Bod's replacement needs to be a proper established experienced target man. Not a kid.

Long term planning is how we will have a ready list of players to look to for a replacement. Having a list of players to replace an out of contract player is basic professionalism and we'll have done ground work with some already.

I should have added 'in isolation' is useless. A list of players is good. So long as they are available now.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 4:40 pmLong term planning is how we will have a ready list of players to look to for a replacement. So… any names in the hat for a target man with a decent touch?

We really need to hope one is.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 4:41 pmI should have added 'in isolation' is useless. A list of players is good. So long as they are available now.
Unfortunately it might not be ones we have been working on levering out, because we thought we had the two big blokes for this season now and were probably looking for someone to compete with Charles.
It might take some serious lifting to get one of those summer targets done now and will likely cost us money, but it can't be avoided.

He might already have something lined up but I wonder if Evatt and Markham might consider giving Connor Wickham's agent a ring?

Now sure the answer to an injury is a player who struggles to walk up stairs the day after a match, but if we get to that stage then maybe.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 4:51 pmHe might already have something lined up but I wonder if Evatt and Markham might consider giving Connor Wickham's agent a ring?

Not to bring up long-term planning again, but Bod's out of contract in summer. As it stands, the two forwards we have contracted into next season - which, let's not forget, we're kinda hoping might be second-tier - are Dion and Sadlier.

Out of interest, how would you define the roles each of our current strikers plays, including Bod?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 5:06 pm...and the lads we've been actively courting won't fill the role Dad Bod plays.

The prospect of 'Big Tom's Return' looms large! Shall we never be set free?!

Now that is a good shout. Always thought he was a good player at this level. Certainly knows how to score.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 4:51 pmHe might already have something lined up but I wonder if Evatt and Markham might consider giving Connor Wickham's agent a ring?
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

In possession one striker makes space and one exploits it. One stretches play and one offers.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 5:08 pmOut of interest, how would you define the roles each of our current strikers plays, including Bod?
Who does each bit varies, but Dad Bod was clearly better at the hold-up, come short, make space type stuff. Dion is at his best running in behind or into space.
All our strikers are expect to do a bit of both.
I mean we can get into the weeds on it, but basically that.

Can't argue with that. On first sight, that might make N'Lundulu more Bod than Dion, but we'll see.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 5:30 pmIn possession one striker makes space and one exploits it.
