It'll be interesting to see who we actually go for. I suspect Stockton, Fossey, Kioso, and the rest of the players that we are well aware of will not be our main targets and we'll have some surprises based upon some moneyball strategy that has been working well for us. I suspect that our youth team will be strengthened significantly given its the second time round, but it'll still be quite a way behind where we would be expecting players to break through.
Still, progress is progress. The uncertainty around whether we're going to be promoted will no doubt making the job harder.

On the youth point, perhaps we'll be able to pluck a few from Wigan, given their current predicament?Mar wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 10:34 pmIt'll be interesting to see who we actually go for. Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Want any of the champions' cast-offs?
Think we may have been linked with Mayor before. The Lancastrian – who turns 33 in October – made 30 league appearances this season, starting 23 (of which he was subbed 17 times) - five assists, one goal, which is about par for his output in this division.Midfielder Danny Mayor is among five players to be released by League One champions Plymouth Argyle this summer. Defender James Bolton, wing-back Conor Grant, striker Luke Jephcott and goalkeeper Adam Parkes have also been released by the club. Mayor, 32, has made 163 appearances for the Pilgrims since joining from Bury in 2019, including 34 during this season.
"Danny Mayor has been there every day throughout my coaching career so far," manager Steven Schumacher said. "We both feel, for the sake of Danny's beautiful young family, the time has come for him to move back home and take on a new challenge. I'm going to miss him so much, but what a way to end our journey together."
Jordan Houghton, James Wilson, Dan Scarr, 17-goal top scorer Ryan Hardie and Niall Ennis have all been offered new contracts for next season in the Championship, while Brendan Galloway has triggered a one-year extension.
Grant joined Plymouth in 2018 although only played 11 times in all competitions this campaign, because of a long-term thigh injury. Bolton, 28, has similarly seen much of his time at the club hampered by injury, making just 22 appearances since signing in 2021.
Jephcott, meanwhile, has been on loan at League Two Swindon since September.

Mayor would make some sense (he might need to bring a present for Sheehan mind!). Chorley boy, and excellent player. Not sure what he'd be for us though (he plays as one of their winger/double tens).
A possibility for the #10 role, not sure if he could work as the one of the double 8s. And his goal record is surprisingly awful.
A maybe.

Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Yeah I'd have him in that pile, or rather in the burgeoning "woulda been more likely two years ago" department with Stockton and Thorniley. Sub-division "only if we don't go up" – although that's another discussion: would promotion enable us to get more squad-filler "pinch hitters", or should we pour any increased money into the top end of the squad?Prufrock wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 12:56 pmMayor would make some sense (he might need to bring a present for Sheehan mind!). Billy Sharp is off from Sheff U - upgrade on Jerome?
Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Jerome has another year on his contract, and I'd suggest he more than fills our quota for 37 year old strikers.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 1:16 pmBilly Sharp is off from Sheff U - upgrade on Jerome?

Seems like a while since the "we need leaders and battlers" cry went up, but if you want one of those you could do worse than Sonny Bradley. The Luton skipper - a 6'4 or so centre-back, replete with the now de-rigueur beard – will leave the Hatters after five years, which include lifting the League One title in 2019. In all he's played 111 third-tier games, 121 Champo. But he's 32 in summer and has struggled with injuries in the last couple of seasons.
-----
Meanwhile,
-----
A few players leaving BARROW. One of them is Patrick Brough (just turned 27), a left-back/LWB signed by Evatt, who has turned down an extension. During their promotion season Evatt often played him at LCB – he's 6ft3 – saying “Patrick’s a good player. He gives us some more balance, being left-footed, he can step out into midfield really well, he’s dynamic, he’s quick and he’s improving really fast." The following season he was nominated for Div 4 player of the month in March - alongside Alex Baptiste, Wes Hoolahan and Exeter's Matt Jay. Another Cumbrian, like Trafford and Dempsey – his and Dempsey's family are "really close and always together," says Demps.
----
----
-----
Meanwhile,
Anderson scored at our place. Midfielder/rightback/RWB.OXFORD UNITED striker Matty Taylor, wing-back Djavan Anderson and winger Jodi Jones have been released by the League One club.
Taylor, 33, first joined his hometown club as a youth player and scored 64 goals in 164 games across two spells. The striker spent the second half of the season on loan at Port Vale.
Dutch defender Anderson, 28, and Jones, 25, were both out of contract this summer.
Anderson made 30 appearances in all competitions after signing from Lazio last September while Jones featured only five times in the league before joining National League side Notts County on loan in January.

Poole – who can play RB or RCB, and was selected in midfield by Hasselbaink at Northampton – was linked with Huddersfield in January. Described as "comfortable with the ball at his feet," in summer 2021 he attracted a Sunderland bid of £500k + £250k in add-ons, but Lincoln valued him at seven figures. He was the Imps' player of the season in 2021/22. Blackpool, Cardiff, Ipswich, Luton and QPR have also been interested.LINCOLN CITY defender Regan Poole will leave the club when his contract expires next month. The 24-year-old ex-Manchester United player, who had been offered new terms, made 56 appearances this season. "He wants to explore options at a higher level and we fully respect that," said Lincoln director of football Jez George.
Fellow defender Max Sanders and midfielder Joe Walsh will not be offered new deals for next season. Sanders, also 24, played 42 games in 2022-23 as Lincoln finished 11th in the League One table, while 30-year-old Walsh made 14 appearances. Midfielder Hayden Cann has accepted a new contract with the club, but they are still awaiting a response over a new deal offered to Sean Roughan.
----
Duhaney is a right (wing)back, 24, born in Fallowfield and schooled at Man City to age 20. Morgan Fox is another six-footed left-sider - a left-back by trade but has played further forward and at centre-back; turns 30 in September.Former England centre-back Phil Jagielka is among seven players to be released by STOKE CITY. The 40-year-old, who agreed a contract extension last December to the end of the season, played 30 games in 2022-23.
Fellow defenders Morgan Fox, Aden Flint and Demeaco Duhaney, forward Nick Powell and midfielders Sam Clucas and Tashan Oakley-Boothe are also leaving. Fox made 43 appearances this season and Powell scored four goals in 26 games. Flint played nine times before spending the second half of the season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, while Oakley-Boothe and Duhaney had loan spells at Lincoln and Turkish club Istanbulspor.

Lewis Wing (CM/CAM) is leaving Wycombe. Scored 9 and assisted 5 more in 44 league appearances this season for the Chairboys.
Only 27 (28 in June) and Championship quality. He’d be a great addition irrespective of what league we’re in next season.

Oh aye. Good shout. Be a hell of a signing that. Last season. 9 goals and 5 assists as you say and played 100 championship games hasn’t he?brommers95 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 7:56 pmLewis Wing (CM/CAM) is leaving Wycombe. Correct. He’s got good second tier pedigree. Will likely be playing there again next season if reports are to be believed. Would love for us to make him a priority signing though this summer even if we don’t go up.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 8:08 pmOh aye. Good shout. Be a hell of a signing that. Well according to the son-in-law, Regan Poole is one of the best players Lincoln have ever had. Completely solid and dependable week in and week out and would apparently play in the Championship no problem.

Certainly seems that way. Same with Lewis Wing. The players who might improve us will be in demand, and we don't yet know what division we'll be in.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 10:24 amWell according to the son-in-law, Regan Poole is one of the best players Lincoln have ever had. Former DERBY captain Curtis Davies is to leave the League One club when his contract expires next month. The 38-year-old is being released along with fellow defender Richard Stearman (35) and James Chester (34).
Full-back Craig Forsyth has been offered a new contract for next season. Striker David McGoldrick has been offered a new deal after scoring 25 goals in 45 appearances in 2022-23, along with goalkeeper Scott Loach. The club has also taken up an option for a further 12 months in the contract of midfielder Jason Knight.

If McGoldrick falls out of contract with Derby, we have to be on the blower to his agent. If we're not already. Even considering our overstocked striker department, if someone of that quality becomes available, we've surely got to be looking!Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 11:58 amFormer DERBY captain Curtis Davies is to leave the League One club when his contract expires next month. That makes sense to an extent, but there are problems with it.truewhite15 wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 2:32 pmIf McGoldrick falls out of contract with Derby, we have to be on the blower to his agent. Firstly, we are still in divisional limbo as yet. Do we think he could do a job in the Championship, a year older? Possibly better than many of our current strikers, but it’s a risk.
Also, Derby have just had the embargo lifted, and already seemed to be blowing us out of the water with wage offers. Getting rid of other ageing stars will probably save them a bunch of wages, too.
Add in the complications of moving club again – I assume he has a young children to uproot – rather than staying out at a club where he has already done very well, and it adds up to a tall order to pry him away. Not that I quibble at all with the idea of getting someone similar in. Neither does the manager, judging by the Jerome transfer.
Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Presumably the gaffer could give him a lift in
Very much doubt we'll be competing with Derby on wages unless we go up, and even then maybe not.

QPR are the sort of club we might pick up releasees from. So who they got?
Conor Masterson is an ex-Liverpool centre-back I've analysed before - but he's joining Gillingham.
Charlie Owens is a Spurs graduate, 26 in December, who has managed to play a grand total of 8 senior games. WTF?!
Ody Alfa is a forward whose loan-clib list tells a story: Atlético Baleares, Billericay Town, Maidenhead United, Dartford, Aldershot Town, Chelmsford City.
So hmm. Shodipo probably the prime pick, but not in this system.
.
Shodipo is the wide forward who scored 12 when Oxford reached the playoffs two seasons ago. He's since been loaned to Sheff Wed and Lincoln, and we've moved away from the front-three system he's best in. But don't be surprised if a League One team using that system picks him up. 80 third-tier games, 38 Champo, turns 26 in summer.QPR have released six players, including defender Leon Balogun and midfielder Luke Amos. Former Tottenham youngster Amos, 26, joined permanently in the summer of 2020 after a season on loan, and made a total of 95 appearances in a time hampered by knee problems. Nigeria defender Balogun, 34, played 16 times after joining last summer.
Olamide Shodipo, Conor Masterson, Charlie Owens and Ody Alfa will all leave this summer.
Forward Chris Willock is contracted for another season after the club activated an option to extend his contract. Options to extend the contracts of Joe Gubbins and Charlie Kelman by 12 months have also been taken up. Meanwhile Taylor Richards' loan from Brighton and Hove Albion has become a permanent deal after the club secured Championship survival.
The R's remain in talks over a new contracts with Jordan Archer, Chris Martin, Elijah Dixon-Bonner, Aaron Drewe and Stephen Duke-McKenna.
