Re: Saviour XI
My memory was abit iffy on this one as I do remember him scoring a belter, but then didn't seem to do much after? Then went the following season.Lofthouse Lower wrote:Candela was fantastic.

I remember an ageing player who was still a class above, both going forward and at the back....

Indeed. Best full back we've had in years.Lofthouse Lower wrote:I remember an ageing player who was still a class above, both going forward and at the back....
Surely doesn't qualify in this thread.

Re: Saviour XI
Mark Fish was given the best reception any defender has ever had at Bolton. Then he turned out to be alright. Just alright.
After a succession of right backs that were neither high-profile nor decent, Steve McAnespie was seen as a hope. Then shanked it.

Re: Saviour XI
So are we describing a saviour as an over-hyped underachiever? Perhaps one who gained mystique through a lack of first team action when their hyped-up reputation suggested they should have played more, yet if they had played more we would have seen just how shit they really were?

Re: Saviour XI
Fredi Bobic - Scored one memorable hat-trick
Djibril Diawara - The new 'Vieria' I once heard him described as.......
Ibrahim Ba - Former Milan and France winger
Christian Wilhelmsson - Err forget about him.
Blessing Kaku - I think they thought they were buying Kaka......
Kostas Konstantinidis - Greek legend........I mean nobody knew about him so he's more a myth than a legend / Saviour.
Franck Passi - Former Monaco Midfielder

Cannot be included in this, surely, simply because of that hat-trick - nobody expected great things, but even if it was just the one game, he sure as hell delivered them.Latham8wfc wrote:Fredi Bobic - Scored one memorable hat-trick

I don't think anybody actually expected great things, so he can't be in, either
But I'll agree with you on Wilhelmsson.

He was a German International and on loan from Brussia Dortmund so he was quite well established......I agree about Batruewhite15 wrote:Cannot be included in this, surely, simply because of that hat-trick - nobody expected great things, but even if it was just the one game, he sure as hell delivered them.Latham8wfc wrote:Fredi Bobic - Scored one memorable hat-trick

he was suppose to have had lots of potential however never really materialised and he was shite by the time we got him.

Michael Brown.
If I'm not mistaken, Tony Kelly was the "makeweight" (do your own joke) in the big money move that saw us sign Michael Brown from Shrewsbury.
He was fast, I'll give him that.
