Bolton had a business relationship with the Purple Property Shop? :|

When did that happen?

Of everything I've read that is by far the most ridiculous, even above people having a protest at the town hall.

An estate agents with morales?

we made bbc news!!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-ma ... r-22707261" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Bolton Wanderers Football Club have announced their new principal sponsor will be pay-day loan company QuickQuid.

The QuickQuid logo will feature on the club's new kits and training wear after Bolton signed a two-year contract.

The club said they were excited about the deal and the firm's commitment to invest in community projects.

Bolton West MP Julie Hilling described it a "sad day" for the club and called on bosses to reconsider associating with "such a company".

She said the industry "exploits vulnerable people who need ready money".

Earlier this month the industry was criticised by regulator the Office of Fair Trading for "widespread irresponsible lending" and charity Citizens Advice for being "out of control".
'Disgusting decision'

Ms Hilling said: "I think accepting a sponsorship deal legitimises these companies in a way that's unacceptable."

Comments by fans on the club's Facebook page included "embarrassed to be a Wanderer", "disgusting decision" and calls to boycott buying the shirts.

A protest against the decision is due to be held at Town Hall Square in Bolton at 17:00 BST on Thursday.

The new sponsor replaces online bookmakers 118BET, whose deal expires next month.

The club said QuickQuid has also made a commitment to invest in its community initiatives and "bring some real fun to matchdays".

Chairman Phil Gartside said: "Their energy and enthusiasm to help develop initiatives in collaboration with the Community Trust, and to support education and other sporting opportunities in and around Bolton has been extremely refreshing."

Greg Hohnstein, of QuickQuid, said: "We are excited to be part of a strong partnership as it develops over this period to help bring success on the pitch and positive results and opportunities in the wider community."

The Consumer Finance Association, which represents lenders including QuickQuid, said: "Payday loans are a positive choice for people from all walks of life as they meet the needs of consumers in the post credit crunch era.

"They are an extremely flexible and simple way of borrowing small sums of money without a long-term commitment. However not all payday lenders are the same. Responsible lenders meet high standards and are fully accountable."

The way people are reacting, you'd have thought we were being sponsored by Josef Fritzl, in conjunction with the Nazi Party and the BNP. It's ridiculous.

I couldn't care less who the sponsors are. Nobody's forcing people to take out one of these loans. I do suspect, however, that this backlash might cause a few on the BWFC board to have second thoughts about this deal. Not only are they gonna lose out in terms of shirt sales because of this, but other companies (alright, one, but still) are now pulling their financial support because of it.

I don't know if it's possible to do away with the sponsorship contract at this stage, but if it is, I reckon the club might do better to tear it up and find something else. Something less hated. How about a gambling corporation, or a sportswear company that utilises workers in poor conditions half-way round the world?

I remember putting £30 on Germany U21s to beat Cyprus U21s to get myself a free shirt!

Wonder if we'll get one with a short term loan

I could, but you're right about the overreaction.

On the second point, realistically most people are only bothered about what affects people on their doorsteps. It's not fair but it's human nature, so sweatshops in third world companies are relativised in people's minds.

yeah but they swept this under the rug

if i'm correct (not had a chance to look properly, so it might be fulla viruses or not there at all or something) , its the hatchet job of this- THIS

that they tried hiding that time

difficult to not see it as a unfair siege of some kind (over the QQ thing) and it probably pays more tax than apple or whoever the bbc (or sky or whichever newspapers) bums.

not to mention them spying feck* at the TV license place when you owe them money.

tbh , if i had the money , i'd pay for the shirt sponsorship and have it as QQ anyway just to keep these hypocrites pissed off.

This may not be good publicity, but it's still publicity for QQ. I didn't even know who they were before this mess began!

This.

It does make me somewhat uncomfortable though given the bad publicity these companies attract. I'm intrigued by the 'make match days fun' statement ... hmm

Fanzone this season will be the place to be. Maybe you can borrow £20 to stick on a bet which has to be repaid at full time.

That has the smell of someone who wanted out taking an opportunity !!
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I agree, and I told them as much on their facebook page. It's just a publicity stunt to get in the papers. Oh look what The Purple Property Company has done etc..

So there is now a facebook "page" set up to protest against the "choice" of quickquid as sponsor and apparently they are arranging some sort of "protest" for 5pm today.

Good god. Why are these people so stupid?

There is talk on the page of how instead of having quickquid, BWFC should have Bolton Hospice on the shirts and PAY for the privilige via donations. I'm not being funny but I'm willing to be these will be the very same people who will moan when we don't spend millions on new players, moan that we're in debt and moan that prices have gone up.

I don't mind people who aren't "happy" with the sponsor, I mean nobody would CHOOSE to have quickquid all over the shirts. But I do get irked that there seems to be a moral crusade from people who I suspect will hardly have that strong of a moral compass.

But the best part was "instead of being sponsored we should donate to help the heroes". Yeah of course. Brilliant.

Yeah it's ridiculous. Some people just love a 'cause' to get stuck into. Bet half the outraged ones never come to games or buy stuff anyway.
It's simple, you don't like it have your say to the club and don't buy the shirt. Lots of people do that, point made and let's get on with supporting the club.
