Like worthy, pretty underwhelmed for this season. Think we will do ok, but not more than that.

Hopefully today will be a surprise but I think we will do well to avoid a defeat. Mind it is good playing the big sides early sometimes before they get going.

Amos, Wilson, Prince, Dervite, Moxey, Spearing, Pratley, Danns, Feeney, Clough, Madine
subs: Fitzsimons, Vela, Davies, Trotter, Heskey, Dobbie, Holding

Spearing in from the cold... or into the shop window?

Has Dougie come back? No Vela. Defensive midfield overload.

Careful fella, you'll get run out of town on a rail...

As it happens I think he may be going for more def-mid experience (spearing rather than Vela) to shield new fella Prince, and that would make sense. He may be playing Danns wide left in a 4-2-3-1, and that wouldn't be a terrible idea - Danns did well out there for Dougie.

If, however, he's playing a three-man defensive shield - or Pratley as an attacking-mid - then maybe yeah, shades of Freedman... :?

Do you think? Both Danns and Pratley can be classed as attacking midfielders, and Feeney, Clough and Madine are all attackers.

...which makes a certain amount of sense, albeit somewhat Freedmanian in thought-process, and not really fitting with the (welcome) rabble-rousing Lennon was giving yesterday about getting off to an optimistic start.

Trouble is, who do we bring on? Heskey and Dobbie are the options, but we really need more width and pace. Clayton and this Barker kid would make the bench look much more balanced - not unconnected with replacing Trotter on it...

Pratley has often played in attacking midfield but he's much better further back. As is often the case, the players selected would almost perfectly suit a 4-2-3-1 with one exception (here it's perhaps Danns or Prats on the left of the 3; in my preferred XI it'd be trying to fit Clough and Mavies into the same zone).

It's not a disastrous line-up. One eyebrow raised.

I'm coming from a place of low expectations not dissimilar to how I felt about the Ashes. Would be lovely to be surprised again

Know what you're saying DSB, But Lennon is far more competent than that prick!

I just want 100% effort from all! no one is really expecting us to beat this lot.

On, absolutely, much prefer Pratley in that 2 (would prefer next to Vela but happy to give Spearing a chance). Just saying that it's not a massively defensive midfield and I'm not sure that swapping Vela in (presumably for Spearing) would make it far more attacking!

Feeney for Clayton and Danns for Davies and I'm happy.

Bags of noise out there, apparently a lot of it away stuff, but let's hope we'll be doing the cheering at 4-45. Coughing on the spot done, radio announcing holiday deals for next year and here we go.......Bolton to bat first and....ohhh, right...

Derby kick off and get an early free kick. Cleared but they come back and Moxey gets some early action. We go forth and...Clough gives away a free. And....Carson thumps one and we manage to grab it and fire one pretty wide. Spearing, Danns and Wilson combine for a throw but it all ends in an away goal kick.

BWFC Twitter feed says it's a midfield diamond, with Clough at the sharp end behind Madine and Feeney.

Warnock slips and Feeney wins a corner off it. And.....in it goes and clears the lot for a throw. Moxey clears, throw them and we hear Derby are in purple. Another free to them but Carson whacks it forth. We hustle a bit and put some pressure on them...apparently. Sounds like a tasty enough start with us making plenty effort. Prince gets a good word, bit of to and fro and then we win a free and.....Feeney is pressing. Now Feeney goes and....a bit of Barcelona and cleared befor Dervite gives away a free.
