^ nahh - I was referring not simply to the distance, but the idea that he has totally given up on Bolton and doesn't give a sh$t anymore... if that were true - why would he bother interrupting his barbadan idyll to get involved in whether Vela was sold or not..
that's all!

Re: Spotty's Seriously Sub-standard Second Rate Transfer Thr
Obviously wait for confirmation but it's not quite as daft as it sounds, although it would be cost-cutting rather than fund-raising. There's 18 months left on his contract so if (note, Enoch, I said "if") he's on £20kpw that's us divesting a £1.5m liability.Bijou Bob wrote:Rumours circulating that Mavies has gone to Sheffield........on a free transfer!!
And for the record, when I say liability, I mean fiscal. I like Sparky and I will miss him, but if we need to cut costs then so be it.

Yeah but I was hoping we could divest this particular liability whilst at the same time getting us to trouser around £750,000. Win win.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Obviously wait for confirmation but it's not quite as daft as it sounds, although it would be cost-cutting rather than fund-raising. So Wednesday get a good player for nothing and aren't even prepared to match his current wages?

Middlesborough offered us half a million for him, so it had better just be a rumour.

Re: Spotty's Seriously Sub-standard Second Rate Transfer Thr
It didn't get that far, we turned them [Middlesborough] down (according to Sheffield Telegraph)throwawayboltonian wrote:Yeah but would they match his full wages? That seems to have been the stumbling block for Sheffield, which led to its collapse (according to BEN and Beeb).Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Middlesborough offered us half a million for him, so it had better just be a rumour.

Where's this rumour from?
£750,000 over 18 months is what, 9k a week? So presumably we'd be forgoing the transfer fee to not have to make-up the shortfall in Sparky's wages for the remainder of his contract.
I'd have thought above all else we'd have wanted the money up front to pay off HMRC/Warbies/Eddie/whoever though.

Bijou Bob started it on here. But I see that Iles has been repeating it. (I reckon Lennon actually started it. )Tombwfc wrote:Where's this rumour from?

by christ we can never win in this game - when we've lost a player for peanuts we're told what do you expect if you pay him relative peanuts, as theres some relationship between salary and value. Problem is when we pay one a kings ransom they still go for peanuts, as our golden boys are a bit tarnished for one reason or another
