In a league that was a damn sight less competitive under Megson (who also had a budget that quadruples Coyle's)

Amongst all the opinions, no one has pointed out the simple fact (and it is a fact) that, despite his more defensive/negative (delete according to preference) mindset, Megson was still unable to get his side to keep a clean sheet in his last season.

From that, I don't think it's unreasonable to form the opinion that his approach wouldn't have been any better now (and - opinion again - we have lower-quality players now than we did).

Indeed, I'd venture to suggest that it would be worse, since we'd lack the attacking play we have, but be no better defensively. But that's mere conjecture. Either way, whilst I'd like someone other than Coyle in charge, I'm glad Megson isn't still here.
