Why are banks loaning him money for this?!Sir Nat wrote:Eidur is said to owe Banque Havilland in Luxembourg £4million and Glitnir Bank in Iceland £1.8million. Other debts make the figure more than £6million.

To be honest, if £6 million is his total debt and includes stuff other than gambling (mortgages etc) and he really is earning £3 million a year he's not doing too badly. Anyone out there who as a mortgage should think about how much they earn a year and there outstanding debt on that to get a comparison.
However, if it is just gambling debt he's probably screwed...
Re: Eidur in BIG debt.
I rather suspect he dind't go in asking for a gambling loan, educated guess would be he negotiated a large overdraft, which on his wages would be easy enough, then pissed it away.H. If you are in debt, just write to the people yourself; say what you've got, tell them how much they can have, and don't be scared by any 'formal or legal' looking letters you receive. Under no circumstances fill out any of those 'means test , income/outgoings' forms the credit companies are so fond of, and never, ever, discuss your financial situation with a 'representative' over the telephone, no matter how hard they try to push you. If you owe under 20 grand, tell the company or companies to take you to court if they wish. If you have made them a reasonable offer usualy they decline legal action, as it's not worth the bother. Some may take you to County Court; don't be afraid as it's common practice for the CC Judge to side with you, as long as you are making some kind of regular payment, however token this may be. Also, keep copies of all correspondence, and a diary of calls made to you by finance/credit companies/debt collectors.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
