One was Gary O'Neil, another was Zouma for the U23s. The other I can't remember but I think it fell through

As I recall, he said no emojis for the last lot of U23s we signed. Then he did a splash of emojis with no follow through and decided Zouma was one of them. If emojis mean a contract is signed, then there shouldn't be any falling through - he's guessing/assuming.
Personally, I think he's full of it; but it does add to the fun.

Not sure that's the whole of it Ghost. Players mainly live on the outskirts, Belmont, Edgeworth or Chorley New Road "posh" area rather than Johnson Fold, Brightmet, Deane Road or Halliwell( how it hurts an ex Halliwell lad to say that ) and Manchester is only a cock-stride away for entertainment (of the football millionaire stockbroker belt and wag variety) . Our magnificent ground itself ( despite its mis-directed new title) and our training facilities are a big attraction. It's all about bank balances and not even Carrs Pasties can affect that. Ken's wallet might look good paying the bill in a restaurant but he's in the pauper class where football owners are concerned....unfortunately.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 11:49 amA lot of players look around the town and leave. If you've been living in Naples and then check out Bolton you can be forgiven for thinking "No, thanks." We're not going to offer players a pay rise to overcome their uncertainty anymore, which is how it used to work.

Not at all, no, but it plays a role - or at least did for years. The number of players who were binned off for asking stuff like "Where will my wife go shopping?" and the like might surprise some folk. But then we also scrapped plans to bring in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (*edit* as manager) because he asked for a few days to talk to his wife about it.

Thought many/most of our players lived in Manchester, Tim Ream excepted.

Aye, sadly "shopping" is a career to footballers wives and boutiques, jewellry and shoe shops get squeezed in between visits to hairdressers, car dealers, travel agents and modile phone shops. Asda and co are an internet list and an inconvenience the darlings have to live with. (Cue for Pru to come in with "when I were a lad, wife had to mop steps wi her hair in curlers and shop ont market, and holidays were a day trip ont train to Fleetwood"...oh nearly forgot "ee by gum" (although that's more Bradford than Breightmet)GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 1:06 pmNot at all, no, but it plays a role - or at least did for years. Well, if there's one handy while your nails are drying, might as well pop in.

And why do we have to translate emojis, they're the crayons of the internet. How old is he three?GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 11:59 amDoesn't "superagent" owe us about 3 more signings according to his emoji crap? I'm fairly sure he confirmed Camp had signed at one stage.

I have no issues with them. Nothing wrong with us having a little childlike exuberance. It adds some excitement and creates discussions.mullayo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 5:39 pmAnd why do we have to translate emojis, they're the crayons of the internet. And he was left out of their squad for today's game. The local paper says he could sign for us this weekend so the could be LA's emoji's.

Malc I've never heard of him....is he any good ? a midfielder or a striker - saying that if he promises not to venture over the half way line to often and promises to prioritise defending first and foremost he'll be fine for Parkinson.malcd1 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 11:19 pmGhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 10:54 pmMK Don's boss has confirmed Aneke is in talks with "another club"...which is us.

Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
I hope he signs this weekend. We could use him on the bench for Leeds. I'd not want Magennis to have to do all that running for another 90mins and Alf can't play that role. I like Chuks as a #10, but I'd have him off the bench when Magennis tires.
If we can get him fit (big if) and if we can integrate him, he could be some player. MK Dons were shocking last season and were relegated from League One, the lad still got 10 goals and 10 assists from midfield. He's improved year on year since he left Arsenal and Wenger always believed he was capable of playing in the Premier League. Loads of work to do to get him up to this level, but hopefully Parky can work on him and he has the desire. I'll be delighted if we sign him - as I may have mentioned a few times already on here.

Aneke has a really weird/unique skillset. Like an Ameobi/Fellaini hybrid.

Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
He's a big unit and has no second gear. I think it's that lack of pace and his inconsistency that has put people off. His size and build also mean that he'll pick up various injuries if he doesn't keep his fitness up and his lifestyle in check and injuries have cost him a couple of moves, as I understand it.
The good points are he's just about immovable when he's on the ball and his touch is ridiculous at times. He can strike a ball and see a pass. He's also got a trick or two and he surprises people.
He was frustrating as hell as a youth player, when I used to go and watch Arsenal's lot; but I genuinely thought he'd be a proper player. Arsenal were worried about his attitude and they sent him out to Crewe, basically to get kicked in the lower leagues and see the less glamorous side of the game. He had offers from clubs higher up the leagues, but I recall Arsenal insisting he went to Crewe and it did his development good. He went on loan there twice. First time he struggled a bit and then found himself. Second loan spell he destroyed the division. That's been how his career has been since then. Moved somewhere, struggled at first, knuckled down and eventually did well - which I think is promising in a player. He's not a kid anymore, though, so he needs to step up.
I think it's a risky transfer for us and him, in that both parties need to know what the requirements are and if we don't give him a run of games he's liable to have a recurrence of those injuries. If we're signing him as a striker I'll worry a bit. If we want a proper attacking mid who offers more physicality than Ozzy, then get him in.
Early signs from social media and chatting to people at the match are that most fans aren't happy about signing "some League Two nobody" - hopefully he's given a chance if we do get him. Again, he has to stay fit. To stay fit he has to play regularly. We'll see what happens.
