Colwyn's fine. Llandudno too. Conwy is lovely.

Rhyl is a shit hole.
I agree. I frequented college in Llandrillo yn Rhos when I occasionally managed to tear myself away from the pub  I also played basketball for Colwyn Bay for a couple of years in the Gwynedd league. I wasn't popular with the opposition, being the most English person around they could hate. Came out of a few games black & blue

Conwy is very nice. And memorable for the fact that I met Bruce Jones aka Les battersby from Coronation street in a pub there. Frightfully nice chap.

Playing for a few years in the Welsh National League meant that, now 7 again you'd come up against a team from deepest Wales with all Welsh speakers in it.

i). They were pathologocal haters of the English.
ii). They hated the 'Granada' Welsh even more ... that being the Welsh born who didn't speak the lingo.
iii). They were shite at football.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Had a few games where the refs refused to speak English. They also refused to give any fouls on me, which of course was taken advantage of. I even had this in the national final playing against a giant Swansea team in Cardiff. I had pretty sharp elbows by the time I had the sense to move back to England

Isn't there a law against living in Wales voluntarily?

If there isn't, there probably should.

B-hell ... I've played there !!

But beware, Rhyl is now one of Britain's worst towns. Utterly desparate place.
Abergele, Towyn, and Rhyl - the Costa del Scouse
Actually having been to Tywyn a stupid number of times I can tell you that it is A. very nice and B. full of Brummies', hardly a Scoucer in site.
Trouble is is that Tywyn is on Cardigan Bay. I'm talking about Towyn. Near Rhyl.
My mistake

I went there and thought it was aright, mind you I had just been to Newtown which is also up there with the Rhyls and the Newport's. The train I was on stopped at Newport and boy did that live up to its reputation, horrid place that looked more like Belfast than Wales. The thing with Wales is just the sheer volume of it that I horrible, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Scotland are all poor but has some few nice bits as well, you just don't get that with Wales North Wales is horrible and so is south Wales is even worse, the only good bit are in the middle. Aberystwyth is alright for example.
