I'm not sure that your owners shared his vision of 'pushing on further'.

I think this is a fair point, though he was on the radar as being a promising young manager before that. The key to it all really is whether in the end he over or under achieved based on Palace's resources and predicament when he took over. Time will tell on that.
Not sure how many clubs would have been seriously looking at DF as a promising young manager two months ago, which would have been on the back of 3 wins in 25-30 games, playing largely sterile football, a 10-12% win %. Good question over under/overachieved, I think we were a better team than that 25-30 game spell, but I don't believe we are a 9 game unbeaten side either.

Trying to not come across as overtly negative here, I am (as one of your posters said) one of the puzzled Palace fans.
Most of us weren't looking at him as a promising young manager two weeks ago mate, let alone two months ago.

Jeesus, Sean Dyche is surprisingly short odds for the Palace & Burnley jobs. I thought Freedman was relatively unproven..

I think I saw games against Palace where DF played and I've always thought he had some grit about him, which we need. IIRC he was the kind of player who was bound to score if no-one else did, and a thorn in the side so to speak. It sounds like he's happy to work within the existing structure which is awesome, assuming that structure is any good. If we get more kids coming through that'd be good too. So, my feeling of grit, and what others have said about working on players' fitness and toughening up the defence are all good things and exactly what we need. If he's less stubborn and a lucky general that's about as good as we can hope for.

Think I posted just before the sacking about a lot of our bigger players being out-of-favour. At the very least this gives everyone a fresh start and hopefully a bounce effect.

I've not caught any of the JP games but it sounds like he's made an improvement already, it's almost a shame a local lad couldn't have had a few more games. I like the idea of there being people at the club not hired by whichever manager so I hope we keep our manager neutral staff like JP and LSL if they're any good.

He scored some cracking goals. Go watch a compilation video of him on youtube, there's bound to be some.

From what I can tell about him, and what the '5 Year Plan Fanzine' fella had to tell us on the podcast, Freedman's likely to be quite hungry to constantly improve himself as a manager (as a player apparently on his summer break rather than hitting the clubs of Ibiza he was observing Milan training sessions to better his knowledge).

Combine that with the fact he's clearly been working with Lennie Lawrence as his guiding father-figure I think we can expect much less stubbornness than Coyle, combined with the kind of openness to new techniques we'd associate with the Allardyce era.

What reassures me about his sustained poor spell at Palace is this: he changed it. One could argue it didn't turn around quick enough, but he identified the problems (a mismatch between attacking & defensive focus, particularly with the 2 defensive midfielders used) & adapted things. Now they're doing well.

The single key fear for me is the lack of experience. For that reason I will be absolutely delighted if/when Lennie Lawrence does come with him, as he brings it in spades.

I've very much got my doubts & fears but at a stage like this I'm going to embrace the improvements his management looks like it will provide on Coyle's, and they're many.
Everything but the game: Because it's not just a game, it's a way of life.

On all accounts he IS supposed to be following dougie to Bolton. Our Chairmen, who post on the bbs all the time, have pretty much confirmed it. I'm really starting to think how much of a mastermind behind the scenes he was. He's a good guy as is Curtis Fleming. Let's see if they are still here next Sat (home against Blackburn) BIG game that one ;)

Today illustrates the differences between our sides. Please keep thinking we are shit, but read the Foxes forum for their opinion first.
