Why would Stoke loan him to us when they know he'd be a back up?

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
That's the big unanswered question. Dunno how well-stocked Cheltenham and Barrow are but he may be nearer the first XI there.
Also, no idea how trustworthy yon site is. It appears to be throwing out a thousand links per hour.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Assuming/pretending it's real, could easily be that they don't view him as in their long-term plans.
He was in the League of Ireland team of the year, then went back to Stoke and has only had 5 minutes of football since (coming on in the FA Cup a week ago). Presumably he will now believe he should be fighting for a place somewhere and believe he can play men's football.
Impossible to know without being party to the discussions around him.

Also worth noting Stoke brought him on on the right of a 3 for his cameo.

Hard to find anything on Macari's contract length, but he was offered an extension last summer. He turns 21 next month.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
Was under the impression his deal expired in the summer. When he left Dundalk there was talk of a permanent deal there, but he said he wanted to see what Stoke's plans were and whether he'd be offered a new deal. It's been worth keeping an eye on the Irish league's younger stars due to our scouting there recently.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 12:23 pmHard to find anything on Macari's contract length, but he was offered an extension last summer. Purely conjecture from what he said in a post-match though.

Re: January 2023 Transfer Window
I suspect this link is bogus as its just the usual agent 'link player with 3 clubs' nonsense.
But that aside if he's backup for a few positions then he has a chance of games at a club the right end of league one. Possibly not bad for experience.
There is also the possibility that Jones' vague 'knee swelling after being hit by a ball in training' is more serious that initially thought....ala Iredale....

Yes, though in this case it's nice of them to have done their research on what we might look for and where we might look.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 12:32 pmI suspect this link is bogus as its just the usual agent 'link player with 3 clubs' nonsense.
Youngster, can play a variety of positions, footballing defender, played in Ireland last season, etc.
If it's an agent engineering a move fair play to them.

Unless the transfer is IE to blackpool now Appleton has just been sacked. Let the rumours commence

If we were maintaining an interest in Lavery this likely scuppers that for a while.

It’s generally considered to be a load of shite. The consensus seems to be they either make rumours up or trawl club forums for mention of a possible incoming/outgoing.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 12:04 pmThat's the big unanswered question. As an aside, Iles' just wrote an article in which Aimson confirms he is 28, not 29. His Wiki page is wrong. Will turn 29 in the summer.

Not sure how solid our rumoured interest was, but looks like we can put this one to bed…
