We actually have a player that was born in 1995? I've got Bill Grundies that are older than him
And enough of this business whereby Johnny Foreigner shows up with a single name. His name's Diogo Filipe Costa Rocha, so that'll be Diogo then, or Rocha if he's shit. Rochinha, my arse!

I dunno what to make of this thread - as far as I can tell...Bob's fcked off and hid in an igloo, we've signed Le Fondre who folks seem to be good with. We might or might not have signed/be interested in signing a Pole, prompting someone to ask "Was Taddy any good?" (really? I mean REALLY?), and we've signed Brucie's underpants with hair gel and already they've left Spearing for dead (if he's a bit shit with hair like that, the ESL will fcking kill him)...
Is that about it?
Is that about it?
Re: Bijou Bob's Bargain Basement Buys - Jan transfer thread
New foreign player keeping warm in his jacket while Spearing's about to foul him and Wheater just holding someone for no reason. Classic

Freedman was terrible both tactically and in the transfer market. Signing Jutkeiwitz doesn't change that, anymore than beating Leeds 5-1 makes him a good tactician.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Whodathunk it would be possible to imagine desperation to re-sign Darren?Spartan2 wrote:Danns has signed a 1yr extension, we desperately need to get Vela, Pratley and Mills to do the same or preferably longer.
Like Boro reject Jutkiewicz? Fairly sure if we were linked with players from Poland and Swindon under the previous manager, people would be screaming about a lack of ambition - when in fact Freedman's key lack of ambition was in his tactical (mis)uses of those players.Spartan2 wrote:So much better than the dross we were linked to under DF. much more interesting to have a complete unknown rather than someone you know can't be anything special.Beefheart wrote:I like these bizarre Football Manager style players we've been linked with. A youth player from Benfica and a striker from the Polish league.
He inherited an exceptional midfield and proceeded to spend most of his budget on making it worse. He left us with an extraordinarily unbalanced team, lacking wingers, fullbacks and strikers and having too many midfielders. This is a guy who played with league two Beckford and still signed him! A few exceptions aside, there's nothing contradictory about being more excited about NL's targets than freedman's.

But that wouldn't really fit the argument I guess.Another way of putting it might have wrote:This is a guy who played with league one Beckford when he won League One Player of the Year and still signed him!

Or you could say
This is a guy who played with league one Beckford when he on the odd occasion could be arsed and not crying over being mocked for being wank!

Was he though? I seem to remember him keeping us unbeaten for three months or so and making at least half a dozen good signings. In fact, I've written a piece about the latter. Not that I think he was overall a good manager, but I'm prepared to have a balanced point of view.Spartan2 wrote:Freedman was terrible both tactically and in the transfer market
Did he, though? Because they were playing pretty poorly when he arrived. (I'm assuming you mean 'exceptional' as 'good'.) Not that I think he was overall a good manager, but I'm prepared to have a balanced point of view.Spartan2 wrote:He inherited an exceptional midfield
I agree the squad was unbalanced. I've therefore been intrigued to see us so heavily linked with Commons, a midfielder. But I'm prepared to have a balanced point of view, so I'll back him if he arrives.Spartan2 wrote:He left us with an extraordinarily unbalanced team, lacking wingers, fullbacks and strikers and having too many midfielders.
And watched him become top scorer that season. Still, I wasn't sad when he (or Freedman) left, I'm prepared to have a balanced point of view on that.Spartan2 wrote:This is a guy who played with league two Beckford and still signed him!
I'm not saying you're being contradictory, I'm, saying you're being overly simplistic. I'm not saying there's no reason to be more excited, because the mood is genuinely more positive and Lennon appears to be a better manager. Doesn't mean that before, everything was shite and now everything's roses.Spartan2 wrote:A few exceptions aside, there's nothing contradictory about being more excited about NL's targets than freedman's.

No it still would, DF should have known, especially after playing with Beckford whether he would be good enough for our team, the championship and able to play up front on his own, which is how he played him. He isn't. Of course transfers can be hit and miss but judging his overall performance, his record is bizarre and shit.Enoch wrote:But that wouldn't really fit the argument I guess.Another way of putting it might have wrote:This is a guy who played with league one Beckford when he won League One Player of the Year and still signed him!
