But then, and lets be clear about the manner of people we're dealing with here, perhaps someone in a faux cockernee/scouse used car salesperson voice might whisper in his shell-like "don't worry our gazza, there'll be a contract on the table for you in the summer".

Remember D-Prats. We're not above it ourselves.

I might be completely wrong, but unless someone gets desperate for a centre half in january, I don't see why they won't just wait til summer. And save a few million.

I guess it depends on what they think is at stake... Arsenal realise that Mertesaker isn't the Messiah, Spurs might wonder if with one little push they might challenge for a chumps league place, Chelsea might think they need an extra boost to challenge the two mancs...

ok - grasping at straws - but players ARE sometimes sold in the January before their contract is up... (aren't they??)

I don't know. But to be fair to Cahill, I really think he's got his pick if he avoids anyone having to pay any fee. And especially if he avoids clubs getting involved in a Dutch Auction.

Indeed I do - but it is a brave man who dabbles at such an advanced level and risks tripping the anti-karmic jinx capacitor...

I can't see this happening. We have too many central midfield's at the moment. Unless Mavis and Muamba (Stoke) are moving on which I think would be a mistake to do.

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Didn't know that Stoke were interested in either but one/both are looking a bit out of place, and I thought that one would have gone in the summer. At the mo Muamba isn't making the bench, is he injured? The wall might have some writing on it!

Can somebody please explain to me how a Dutch auction would work when bidding for a player? The price goes down with a Dutch auction... Not up.

Sky Sports are full of sh*te.
The following is a list of 15 clubs I have fully confirmed (through a seeming source cast-of-thousands) that were in the house to watch Shea either in Belgium last month or New Jersey last week:

Anderlecht, AZ Alkmaar, Blackburn, Bolton, Fulham, Hamburg, Liverpool, Newcastle, PSV Eindhoven, Roda JC, Sporting CP, Stoke City, Sunderland, Werder Bremen, West Ham United
He trained with us in 2007, so we might have an advantage. Maybe Super Stu can put in a word.

I hope so, is he another Disco Stu style player?
