Why has Jaaskalinen been dropped. I have always rated him, very good player. Great service to the club, fantastic guy.

Everyone seems to be enjoying this topic - much more than my transfer rumours thread which to be fair was conceptually ahead of it's time (which luddites like TKIZ couldn't seem to grasp...)

SERIOUS POINT: Reading through this thread with the sheer amount of Allardyce cock-ups it really does make you think about those allegations of agent kick-backs. IMO the weight of evidence seems overwhelming...

A lot of those "cock ups" were either short term contracts, triallists, loans, youngsters on peanuts etc, so they won't have cost a fortune. The high number of them is probably to do with playing the odds with a low risk, "get ten players in with potential, and one or two will prove a success, get shot of the rest sharpish".

The sheer about of random signings made by Allardyce is staggering, I remember the word was we'd signed a striker from Roma and Allardyce kept it all hush hush as not to let anyone else beat us to him, there i was thinking we'd got Batistuta etc.. turns out its Emanuele Morini. Feck sake.

The list goes on.

I remember one time a colleague of mine relating the tale of Lee Potter and his mates acting up in a restaurant - throwing food and stuff, and then him hopping into his nice brand new sports car. I have no way of verifying this, but someone mentioned he was on upwards of a couple of grand a week. This is in the nineties, mind. And might be made up shite. Not the restaurant bit though.

Ended up at Halifax didn't he?
When Our Kid was bouncing at Atlantis, some scrote turned up with his mates after the time at which they'd stopped letting people in. Said scrote then started giving it the big "I am" and asked "Do you know who I am?" Our Kid replied "No, I've no idea who you are, mate", to which the cocky scrote replied "I'm Mat Glennon, Bolton Wanderers Goalkeeper".
He also slapped some bird in there as well, well it was more of a punch really

Nice bloke.....

Allardyce was a lot like the players he signed. Talented with a flaw or two that kept the bigger teams away from him. I’m guessing “unorthodox transfers” was counted as one of those flaws.

In fairness, Diawara had a good pedigree and Salva was signed for £10.5m or something by Valencia 2 seasons earlier, so oviously had something about him.

Some of the others were baffling though.. Oscar Perez is one of them

Balesta went back to Spain scored loads of goals and got another Spanish cap after leaving us, and played for Athletico Madrid for a season. Definitely wasn't shite, just never did it for us... never really had the chance either given he was mainly used off the bench.
