bolton/baggies match thread

Post by thebish » Thu Sep 30, 2010 6:15 pm

not wanting to extend the travel thread - which Zulu has invaded with politics.. - should we have a proper match thread?

if so,

here's a kick-off...

Peter Walton will officiate Saturday's clash. The Northampton-born referee has so far dished out 11 yellow and two red cards in just three games so far this season.

11 Bolton players on the pitch at the end??? hmmmm...

Couldn't make it on afternoon TV so he took up Reffing. Hopefully he'll have an off day and not show any cards, ho ho ho. Goodnight, Peter. 8)

Can't be worse than Stuart Attwell.

Full-strength squad to choose from for the first time in a while.

This is about as intriguing a match as we're likely to be involved in all season. Two teams whose confidence are up, playing well and surprising a lot of people in many ways. Can't make the mistakes at the back we've been making, especially the way Odimwengie is punishing lapses in concentration.

I sense a goalfest. 3-3, maybe nick a 4-3 for us.

no we don't...

Sean Davis is out - Ricardo, AOB, JOB and Samuel - all struggling with injuries...

(ok - not exactly decimated - but not a full-strength squad)

my guess - we'll be unchanged except Cahill for Ricketts

I meant all our starting XI and all the subs who generally come on are available. But you're right!

which Ricketts certainly doesn't deserve...

indeed not - and Coyle has been up-front enough to suggest that Ricketts presents him with a selection headache - but I still expect to see Cahill back...

It's a toughie. One of those clichéd 'headaches every manager would love to have'. I share your overall view towards Knight, in not rating him. However, credit where credit is due he was a tower against United, and dropping players after they have had excellent performances sends the wrong signals. I think the best two we have are probably Ricketts and Cahill, but I'd go with Ricketts and Knight this weekend, after both played well, and it is a nod to Cahill he is by no means the finished article yet.

Of the good sort for a change, although I agree Rickets might have just cause for feeling a bit aggreived. His bursting run and shot down the middle was a real cracker for a Centre back.

 Peter Walnut as ref. I'm fearfull. If that guy could concentrate and not keep thinking of a way to give a penalty against us, whilst thinking of even more reasons to not give a penalty for us; he might be able to keep his mind the action, but sadly I doubt it. I feckin hate him. He is a leading member of the big four cartel. If he tries to sue me for defamation, insinuation, slander or liable, we'll just get the videos out.

What makes you think Cahill can do a better job than Muamba as a holding midfielder?

Fear not, if Cahill's coming in it'll be for Rickets, not Muamba. Right now, I'm for keeping last week's eleven. They're learing as they go and I'm sure OC'll have had something to say about defensive lapses. Old adage about dropping a winning side, ain't broke don't fix it etc, etc applies.
