Don't know if anyone's mentioned Mike Jeffrey ? For a couple of years he was the great young hope.

I view it as someone who's reputation increased only due to the fact they never played, often being cited as being far superior to those who were in possession of the shirt. Were proved not good enough later either here or elsewhere.

On that basis Borgetti, Andranik, Riga, David Thompson, Vaz Te, James Sinclair and Smolarek are all good shouts. Joey O'Brien in his first season too.

Sam Ricketts is in a regular cycle of this, so I'm not sure where to place him. He gets in the team, is shite, gets dropped, people forget and think he's great again, he gets back in the team. And repeat.
I thought it was signings who we honestly thought - and were led to believe - that they would be the players to take us on to the next level, who were going to be massive stars at the club now they've signed....only for them to become bit part players having been found out.

Then again, I haven't come up with the original idea for the thread, so can only speculate and get back in my kennel.

already been mentioned, but it's a welcome mention again.

I'd also like to say Nicky Brookman

Even though Sommer injured himself we still drew that game IIRC, and he made some good saves that day despite his self-inflicted crock.

Reserve goalie and no more.

He was very good. Very very good.

The problem was, he had a heart attack every 2.7 games played, and therefore was almost as unreliable as Darren Anderton.

I believe that led to the slightly inappropriate chant of 'He's big, He's Black, He's had an heart attack. Fadiga, Fadiga'

It might just have been me but I remember being desperate for us to sign a decent left back so we could dump Jimmy 'rabbit caught in headlights' Phillips.

We got Bryan Small

But there's only one candidate for left back: Enzo Gambaro

Bryan Small is a good shout for this team. I remember he played 1 or 2 none too shoddy games for us (literally 1 or 2) and me and my mate always used to question why a stump like Phillips was still playing. Ergo, if Small was playing we would have smashed the 100 points out of sight.
