Whites vs Newcastle

Post by seanworth » Mon Feb 21, 2011 10:59 am

Well the excitement of yesterdays win over Fullham is over and now we are back to business in a big game against Newcastle. Not sure how this game will turn out. Usually quite good for us, but Mr. Nolan will be certainly trying to redeem himself after his last game and return to the Reebok. Newcastle are a real Jeckyll & Hyde sort of club. We are building confidence again though, and Holden seems to have regained his fitness and thus a return to form.

Newcastle 1 Bolton 2.

Tough place to go to, we haven't got a particularly good record there (In fact, I think its shite). So obviously a draw would be fantastic.

And please, no more injury worries.

Yeah I thought our recent record at St James was better than it actually is. Guess I was influenced by our dominant record at the Reebok with Big Sam's debut at Newcastle being the exception.

Which wasn't quite what the records show. N'Zogbia's free kick was a fluke cross that everybody missed and one goal was a pin-ball rebound. Could have gone either way but for those.

I'm off to this one - making the long drive from Big Capital City on Friday, and off to the game with 1 Bolton fan and a couple of Newcastlers. A draw would ensure a pleasant evening for all, from what they're all saying, and I for one would be over the moon if we secure it.

With our cobbled together defence, and my ability to see us at our most abject, a 1-1 would leave me contented.

I remember that glorious affair up at Newcastle when Diouf scored twice and then went off on that crackers celebration to the delight of the massed Geordie scrotebags.

Glorious. 2-1 to us again I reckon, Danny boy and Wheater with the goals.

No options in defence but plenty in attack: Klasnic two in two, Sturridge three in three before that. Thing is they haven't played together and it might be a risk to deselect both the hard runners, Elmo and SKD. Not the easiest call for OC but it's certainly a pleasing dilemma. Also has the option of playing Elmo out wide, although I wouldn't like to drop CYL. Might also have Mavis back pushing the middle two (and to an extent the wide men). Plenty of game-changing attacking options from the bench, then; if he goes with Saturday's starting front six, he could have Mavis, Taylor, Rodrigo, Sturridge and Elmo clamouring for the call. No bad thing.

As Seanworth pointed out they are a real Jekyll & Hyde club this season beating Liverpool comfortably and then losing to Blackburn. They seem to have their best results when they get an early lead so I think if we can keep them quiet first 15-20mins we will have a good chance of getting all three points. Barton has been there key player this season so Robinson and Petrov/Taylor will need to be on there game, that aside they have no players I'm massively concerned about.

Newcastle 0 - 2 Bolton. Cahill and Elmander. (Both goals in the 2nd half)

They've changed our viewpoint? Good, much as I love Subbuteo paying £30 for the privilege of a live-action recreation was a bit galling.

Can I be an absolute pedant and suggest you mean your acrophobia gives you vertigo? :p

Anyway - I have a feeling they've changed where the away fans sit, so it's not so high.

You could, but you might be wrong. Vertigo does not necessarily stem from a morbid fear of heights.

Meanwhile, Kevin Nolan has reputedly been cage-fighting, hitting photographers, howling abuse at neighbours and eating raw meat. When asked if he was training to be the new Mr Katie Price he replied " No, we're playing Bolton next week".
