Bolton Wanderers Under-18s responded to last weekend's defeat against Nottingham Forest in the best possible way by beating their Stoke City counterparts on Friday afternoon.

In a rearranged fixture that originally fell victim to the adverse weather conditions back in February, an own goal in the first half and a fine James Caton effort on the stroke of half-time was enough to seal the three points for David Lee and Tony Kelly's side.

Sandwiched in between Wanderers' two goals was a Stoke City equaliser, which arrived from the penalty spot.

"It was a very good win," explained Assistant Coach Kelly. "In the first half we could have been five or six goals up.

"We got off to a good start by taking the lead early on. Jack Sampson played a one-two on the edge of the box and one of the Stoke defenders headed it into his own goal.

"We gave away a penalty to make it 1-1 but we struck back with an immediate response, which was very pleasing.

"James took his goal very well - he cut inside on the edge of the box, got the ball out of his feet and found the back of the net.

"In the second half we created more chances but the most important thing is that we got the win and the reaction that we wanted from last Saturday.

"We've got two games left against Blackburn and Manchester City and we are going to encourage the lads to finish as high as they can in the league."
