Has been a revelation for Brum (trust me, I'm forced to watch them fairly often) but nay spring chicken. I'd deffo take Luke Young if we can afford him though. Is John Pantsil better than Steinner? Don't know.

Aston Villa - Nigel Reo-Coker, Luke Young
Birmingham City Sebastian Larsson
Blackpool Gary Taylor-Fletcher
Bolton Wanderers - Tope Obadeyi, Robbie Blake, Tamir Cohen, Johan Elmander, Gretar Steinsson
Fulham Zoltan Gera
Manchester United Owen Hargreaves
Stoke City Abdoulaye Faye, Rory Delap
Tottenham Hotspur Jonathan Woodgate

These are the ones I wouldn't mind seeing at the Reebok next season. I think Tope might be on his way (presumably seeking first team football) but I figure he'll no doubt end up making the bench at the start of next season providing we end up getting our usual wait for a new striker.

Owen Hargreaves and Jonathan Woodgate would have to be on pay as you play deals. Would be trouble signing them otherwise.

Abdoulaye Faye because he is and has been the beast at the back for quite a few seasons so I wouldn't mind his return in no doubt a less pivotal role. Rory Delap because he offers something a little different should we need fresh options from off the bench.

Zoltan Gera always looks promising but theres obviously something strange about this guy, constantly on these sort of lists so mustn't be living up to his billing.

I'd've gone for Carlo Cudicini aswell but theres no point getting in more goalkeepers when we already have an abundance of top quality.

Reo-Coker signed for Villa for about £8mil, and will no doubt be on huge wages. He's solid enough, but not much more than that. I'd rather take a chance with Pratley or David Vaughan.

I always thought Jonas Olsson was solid enough last time West Brom were in the PL, not seen much of him since then. He's only 28 though.

The rest either wouldn't improve us, or wouldn't be worth having.

Reo-Coker is only 26. Quite a versatile player and would add some strength in midfield but is going to be on a huge pay packet! Same with Young although i hear Liverpool are interested in Young.

He actually travelled to Blackburn with the squad on Saturday (as did Connolly).
He looks like he's finally starting to live up to his potential for the reserves and there's talk of Coyle wanting to keep him.

Larsson and Reo-Coker would be good squad additions and Luke Young is also good but just getting on a bit

None of them really stand out as players who would drastically change our squad, but Reo Coker would be an improvement in our current center midfield back up.

A lot of places reported Davies' last extension would run to 2011, the BBC say the end of next season. It'd be a formality anyway, given how bizarrelly irreplaceable he continues to be.

There's a possibility we might have an option on adding a year to Steinsson's deal, which would explain why nothing has been said on that score.

Reo-Coker and Seb Larsson would not get into our strongest XI (or wouldn't improve it), and so would be incredibly expensive squad players.

They'd be no more expensive than we wanted to make them

Effectively, they're on the dole in a few weeks

Agreed, can't see there being a huge queue for Reo-Coker's services.

Then why would we want him?

I think plenty of clubs would be in for Reo-Coker. He's a solid Premier League performer, aged 26 and with good experience, available on a free. I imagine he'll be in a great bargaining position. Above all else, Villa still want to keep him.

It's all speculation, but what he'd be worth to us as our third choice midfielder, will be a lot less than he'd be worth to other clubs. I'm not saying we couldn't afford him, or he wouldn't come, just that he's not what we're looking for. Someone like Pratley - cheaper, more to prove, goals in him - would be more like it.

I would like to see us splash the cash (if we have any or from the sale of Cahill) on:

Danny Graham from Watford, could be the natural replacement for Davies.

Nathanial Clyne from Palace, seen him play a few times this season and he looks the part, reminds me of a young Ashley Cole but at right back.

Pratley from Swansea - arguably one of the best players in the second tier could work with Holden well.

A new centre half - will be almost impossible to replace Cahill.

A couple of loan gems

And a foreigner we have never heard of who turns out to be a world beater...
