In fairness, if the investment had followed they could have won the league......but I digress.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:As sure as Liverpool fans were two summers ago, after finishing second?Gooner Girl wrote:Finish 10th? What are you on? I'm not stupid enough to think we will win the league (though we do have a chance) but we won't finish below top 5, I can be pretty sure of that.
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I don't understand the point of arguing that if Arsenal lose Fabregas and Nasri and don't replace them at all then they will finish 10th. If we sign Ronaldo Messi Villa Xavi Sneijder we'd probably come top 5. Great. Not gonna happen is it. Though it did come from someone who started his list of top left backs with Eric pissing Abidal.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Well, indeed. if we DO lose BOTH Nasri and Fabregas its 99% certain Wenger will replace with at least one central mid because he;d get totally lynched by baying gooners if he didn't. He's treading on thin ice as it is with many of the Arsenal fans, he's not stupid enough to think that the 'talent from within' line will go down well after yet another trophyless season so its a bit pointless saying we will end up 10th when the scenario talked about is very unlikely to happen.Prufrock wrote:I don't understand the point of arguing that if Arsenal lose Fabregas and Nasri and don't replace them at all then they will finish 10th. I think he will spend big this summer. He has to. I'm not convinced it will be enough to move you forward though. You'll probably swap greater defensive stability for much less cutting edge given the loss of Fabregas and Nasri would hurt any team.

I must confess i'm not entirely confident about the season ahead, i'm hoping we might win a cup, i fear the league may well be beyond us but i guess theres ages left in the window so we shall see what AW does.Prufrock wrote:I think he will spend big this summer. However, i'm not so sure Arsenals problem is just the lack of quality players in certain positions. We have no mental backbone (if that makes sense?) and thats why i think we have been struggling. Long gone are the days of proper leadership from the likes of Adams, Vieria, a determination to get stuck in and do the job, instead half the time we fanny about on the edge of the box playing tippy tappy football and getting nowhere fast. We need more drive and passion, Wenger also needs to have a Plan B. At the moment everyone knows how Arsenal play and if they are clever enough they can nullify our style of football. Wenger is stubborn sometimes and not adaptable enough IMHO (and don't get me wrong i think he's great and has been fantastic for the club, but i'm not totally blind to his weaknesses...)

You've always got the Emirates Cup to contend for?Gooner Girl wrote:I must confess i'm not entirely confident about the season ahead, i'm hoping we might win a cup, i fear the league may well be beyond us but i guess theres ages left in the window so we shall see what AW does.Prufrock wrote:I think he will spend big this summer. abidal is quality we all know it as fact bud my point was there arent many top quality leftbacks so naming a top 3 of abidal evra and cole is to be honest pretty fair, Can you tell me someone currently playing better than those 3?Prufrock wrote:I don't understand the point of arguing that if Arsenal lose Fabregas and Nasri and don't replace them at all then they will finish 10th. and your comment about us signing messi ronaldo xavi and sjneider is stupid its not ever gonna happen but it looks like fabregas and nasri leaving arsenholes is!

You're right they're quality but you're probably forgetting Coentrao and Capdevillamrpiccollo wrote:abidal is quality we all know it as fact bud my point was there arent many top quality leftbacks so naming a top 3 of abidal evra and cole is to be honest pretty fair, Can you tell me someone currently playing better than those 3?Prufrock wrote:I don't understand the point of arguing that if Arsenal lose Fabregas and Nasri and don't replace them at all then they will finish 10th. We can sketch off City as a possible cahill destination.

Yet another Manc City signing to add to there list of already crowded defender list who will sit it out for one or two seasons and then quietly return to his home country after failing to be given a chance by Mancini. At least he will retun a wealthy 22yr old!

Cahill to City would have been the best deal for us IMO. City have the cash to splash and also players they want rid of, to swap. Would and could have worked out well, if we took a loan from them the player would have been local and probably an easier deal all round. But the people at Citeh advocating the Cahill deal have been sidelined apparently so its not happening.
We're now left with penny pinching dithering old fool Wenger, and "sell my granny for a tenner and buy Papa Bouba Diop with it" Redknapp to do any deal with!
