Pru: Aye, there's no definitive link between height and ability. And I might be doing Delaney down, in which case I'd be delighted to be proven wrong. I just suspect that there aren't that many ball-playing 6ft5in defenders in the lower league, and that when you add Brian Barry-Murphy's predilection for passing to his happiness to release Delaney mid-contract. We'll see, I guess. I hope he's good. (And BWFCi: of course we need balance. I don't think Barrow got promoted by shipping goals. But Evatt does seem to demand that all players be happy in possession.)

On Kean Bryan - I wouldn't exactly die of shock if he came back. He's a Sheffield United player; if Evatt's football is based on a ball-playing back three in a fluid system, we might just be one of the best proving grounds for him. Same goes for other local Prem clubs who like players confident in possession. And not just the very big ones: Sounds like Evatt is already popular with Blackburn. There are good sides to being in such a low division that we're not a threat.
I think sentiment towards Evatt might shift rather quickly if he were to start borrowing players off that lot...

Ha! See, while that might be true among boneheads, I don't give a shit where our players have been as long as they're good for us. Kevin Davies was a Blackburn reject. Dennis Politic joined us from Man U. So did Tony Dunne.

I literally couldn't care less where our players come from nor who they are. If Evatt wants them - its good enough for me. As though we're in any position to turn down players because they are from a rival. If Blackburn want to or are able to help us then great - same goes for any club. We're the paupers right now - our begging bowl is out there - any help gratefully received.

I would suggest you guys are more well balanced than the majority of our fan base. Generally loaning players from a club's main rival isn't something which happens too regularly, right?

We don't have a main rival. Is it Man Utd? Blackburn? Preston? Wigan? As for generally - depends on the circumstances. Given where we are I expect us to be loaning players from NW rivals purely because of logistics - players in their development can remain local to where they live. If we were in the same league as Blackburn might be a bit different - but in this scenario, we'll take what we can get.

I'd borrow players off Accy and Rochdale if it worked for us. They are, after all, out of our league.

I'm not saying you aren't both right, but I would suspect that a lot of our fans would kick-off if we started loaning Blackburn players.

I wouldn't worry. In January, a fairly unpopular manager borrowed a player off Man U. World didn't end.

Given all this Barrowcelona business I wouldn't be surprised if we're sniffing around some of the City kids. You're probably looking at the more 18y end of the scale, or ones who haven't caught fire elsewhere but it has to be attractive for City to have a relatively big club playing that kind of football on the doorstep.

Impression I get is we'll be looking at the City, United, Liverpool academies and hoping to be a stepping stone for some and a sanctuary back into football for others.

Mike Pollitt has left the club. I feel for him to be honest, he left a good job to return to his hometown club and now finds himself unemployed.

Indeed, it's a shame for him.

I note that Ian Evatt has brought with him Lewis Duckmanton, who at Barrow combined the roles of analyst and GK coach. I'd be slightly surprised if he continued to double up like that at Bolton, at least without some number-crunching help underneath him. Maybe it's tactical: if we are to be playing out from the back Evatt may trust his own man more to impart that. At many clubs goalkeeping coaching is clearly separated, and while I wouldn't necessarily expect ours to now be doing rondos all day, it sounds like the patterns-of-play stuff starts right from the guy in green.

I agree. The goalkeeping coach role is obviously always important but it's just become even more important, and in a different way.
