Also from a financial perspective him and Eagles only cost £3 million combined and probably aren't on massive wages so hardly a disaster on a Sean Davis scale.

Most disappointing signing for me is still Elmander, could have been the dawning of a new age if he'd have gotten any way near the form of the man he was brought in to replace. I still wonder how much it works out we payed for each of his 18 goals? Anyone have a idea what he was earning per week? Shudder to think really..

edit: a quick gander on wikipedia shows he got 12 goals for Galatasaray this year alone and helped win them the title, brilliant return on a bosman.

Now on trial with Brighton, so we may yet see him. I was going to say again but apart from riding the pine once against Charlton I don't remember him getting in the squad.

He came on against Chelsea the day we went down and had a great chance. All he needed to do was make contact with the ball with his head and we'd have been 1-1 and stayed up. Chelsea went up the other end and killed the game off.

If we're judging on "worst player" then Cid has to be up there.

If we're looking at "worst value for money" then Todds 3.5M spent on Holdsworth ranks up there for me. Bought to score the goals to keep us up and he was bobbins. Yes he performed well once Allardyce came in 3 years later but hardly the point. Record signing at the time, and a BIG mistake.

Shittu cost £2M. He signed a 3 year deal and was on £20K a week (having been unable to agree that with Rangers).

So his cost was closer to £5M.

I don't think I'd criticise the signing of Davis. Good player. Would have made a massive difference to us that season, had he not picked up an injury. Unlucky more than owt else.
