Bolton in Europe.
I was in the new National Football Museum in Manchester with my dad and we saw something relating to Gheorghe Hagi, the Romainian striker/midfielder.
Both my dad and I can remember seeing him playing at Burnden but couldn't remember the circumstances. I'm sure it was in some sort of minor Euro-League thingy.
Can anyone shed any light on this??!

I think you might be right - on the grounds that he never played for Bari...CAPSLOCK wrote:Brescia, I think

I was there! 1993. I think there was about 3k on. And the score was 3-3, if memory serves, with their keeper making a ludicrous Hollywood save that was going about 10 foot wide and 3 feet over.
Happy days.

I'd have been 12 at the time so I can't remember it too well!

Was it Brescia who brought 1 fan? So they went and fetched him and stuck him in the corporate box?

Didn't Jimmy Pip score an absolute belter against one of 'em?

Re: Bolton in Europe.
I started a thread about Anglo Italian cup yonks ago hoping for some stories/memories from the away trips. I think there were all of 500 people at the game in Pisa!
I looked at our results, it was a strange competition, we went unbeaten but didnt make it to Wembley.
I saw a final of the tournament once I think ITV carried highlights of it one year, Notts County scored direct from a throw in and the goal was allowed

Very strange. One in which you could play Brescia one week, then Sunderland the next....P.O.S. wrote:I started a thread about Anglo Italian cup yonks ago hoping for some stories/memories from the away trips. I think there were all of 500 people at the game in Pisa!

Re: Bolton in Europe.
Until the arrivals of our Galacticos at the Reebok, Georghe Haghi was one of the finest footballers I ever saw strut his stuff in Bolton. He was absolute class for Brescia in a 3-3 draw. The other home game that year was against (I think) Ascoli who we beat 5-0. We drew away 1-1 at Pisa and iirc Ancona. Phillips & Seagraves scoring in each.
I remember us winning 2-1 away at Tranmere (spit) in the competition and assuming we must have played well. The following day Rioch put half the side on the transfer list including a shocked Steve Fulton who had only joined us 3 months earlier for £300,000

Re: Bolton in Europe.
I thought Fulton was listed for certain other disagreements with Rioch, but I suppose they may have come to a head over that...

I rember that from Rioch too. We weren't doing too well at the time, and he had a major tantrum. It seems to have worked. I'm not sure it would now.

Ditto... in fact I was there with you.... What a match... He scored from the half way line with Aiden Davidson diving over one of the weakest shots I have ever seen.... infact it was one of the weakest goals I hasve seen at a Bolton game until that gaff from Walker when he was at LeicesterLord Kangana wrote:I was there! 1993. Ancona... We played 2 of the big guns relegated from Serie A (Ancona and Brescia) but missed out on the biggest draw of Fiorentina with Abel Balbo and Bati-gol upfront.... Oh and wasn't it because Stevie Fulton smoked 20-a-day...Harry Genshaw wrote: The other home game that year was against (I think) Ascoli who we beat 5-0.
